Ok, now you made me curious!
And what about the labels that have been involved into the psytrance scene
and now are slowly moving into the minimal techno scene?
Tribal Vision and Iboga for example..
Was it worth for them to make this change?
As they kept the quality in a way, but still they're 'half here and half there'
in both of the music styles, if you know what i mean..

Axis i was reffering to electronic music artists who make serious money out of it. 1000 dollars a month is not serious money in the music industry.
By the way Deadmau5 like every artist out there charges money depending the size of the gig and the country. In Greece last year he charged 22,000 euros for a club event. I doubt he charges half a million anywhere in the world to be honest and i dont know where you got that information from.
Luca A LOT of people from the psy trance scene have tried to invade the techno/trance/minimal scenes but 99,9% havent achieved anything at all.
I still wonder why people like Son Kite left a hugely successful project to focus on Minilogue.......

Maybe artist dont make much form beatport but many labels get enough to be run properly and pay artist for tracks/albums.
That at least gives a base ground to work more profesionally.
Regarding Minilogue, I bet they also concentrate on that project cause it brings more money with out so much hassle.
THir 4th son kite album was about to be realesed on BNE in 2009, it went bankrupt and I doubt it will ever see the light of day.

Wizack yes i understand and already know that but i was wondering why they didnt run both projects at the same time instead of just focusing on Minilogue. Anyway thats just me asking silly questions ofcourse.
Login i am not sure that the guys make more money from Minilogue than they would do nowdays with their Son Kite project. Anyway good luck to them anyway since they are great musicians indeed. Will enjoy them in Athens this Saturday actually after a long long time.

I really don't understand why they haven't released that album yet. Just becouse BNE went out of bussiness, they could have released it wherever they want i bet. Silly.
i mean com'on.. get them damn tracks out and continue on what you are doing =)
cheers!

I've been spending some time on Richie Hawtin's official page now..
Well, what to say: psytrance and labels and the market and so on..
I think psytrance is seriously not meant to become such a mainstream genre.
So, when we speak about how labels are promoting theirself in the psytrance scene,
we should switch the targets into something diverse, isn't it?
The mainstream of psytrance is now represented from the main festivals across the world:
Boom, Universo, Ozora, Tribe, and some others in Israel maybe.
But i can see a large difference in general.
Minimal is sounding way too different,
the audience is way too larger, the money involved is way too much.
Psytrance can't be succesfull as other musical styles, cause it has a different concept.
It was not meant to be mainstream, but at one point, in a certain moment/year, the chance came indeed,
and the main festivals have been submerged, increasing the selling of entrance tickets.
But my feeling is that people, and the audience in general didn't really like it.
Minimal was not fitting with the people that wanted to have psychedelic experiences, and the other way around.
The thing is that labels now probably are aware that
the market they're facing is purely composed of a restricted group of people
(and most of the time we all know each other), but still,
a small candle is burning, and it's worth to keep it going,
as most of us doesn't really like anything else than this.
I'm not speaking for myself, musicwise;
i consider minimal techno an interesting event, i like the connection with the newest technologies as well.
I'm aware that the golden age is a circle.. sometimes it's there, sometimes it's here.
So, going back on the topic: labels here can have any strategy they feel like, imo.
There's not much to invest on adverts, but if somebody's able to fill the needs of the psytrance people
(even if it's just a few), with the music that people likes to support, well, the trick can go on for a while.
We have some very good examples of smart managers that
are able to face success with every release.
Giuseppe from Parvati, Aes Dana from Ultimae, Cubixx with Iono, the Peak guys just to name a few.
Just my thought and short experience.

and 1000 dollars is not wat they make . They make more than that . and also on eatport u get paid everytime some1 buys ur tracks. that means even after 5 years of the release.
so if u were making 1000 dollars and are at ur prime , u most possibly will be making more money on the next release and so on.
I beleiive this is the most healthy the electronic music solution. but beatspace (which again is a rip off ) and psyshop dont do nothing . |

Every release that is on Psyshop is automatically on all the torrents, so that's what they do for you
I have heard a lot of Bullshit regarding Psyshop from many people. I wonder if the Psy scene will ever realize that working together would benefit all of them... ?

If you're talking about labels it's about the distribution channels, and psytrance always seemed to use their own, so the subgenres grew while the genre remained underground. Psytrance music companies working at the distribution level haven't done much to shape up imho.
The genre itself represents a very minor percentage of those present in international electronic music conferences, even though we have more labels than a lot of others.
Time will catch up though and I think at one point it'll break through, it's too widespread to die out. My faith in psytrance is that a lot of innovation and fusion happens, especially as the world keeps going on trends, it absorbs a lot of those trends and makes it it's own. It's happened to all genres from Trance to Techno to Dubstep.
Maybe this is why we don't have many breakthrough acts either? It's never a 100% new.
just my observation.

breakthrough acts ? if u want examples , ill give u some harcore names that will drop ur jaw n spin u 360.
Liquid stranger. the whole rotten records crew was THE american psy sound.(not fractal cowboys timeline , a lot earlier , discogs obviously helps ) now is doing dubstep. and killing it
100 % breakthrough. |
