I am buying a new laptop (cause I fried the old one as usual)and I have a dillema. One laptop has 1 MB L2 cache on it's p4 3.2 HTT cpu, but a 64mb shared 6000 ATI Mobility Radeon. The other has a 521 KB L2 cache on it's p4 3.2 HTT cpu but has nvidia geforce Go5200 with it's own 64mb ram. (keep in mind that I am planning to get 1 gb of ram). Which one do you think it's the best option, with a heavy weight given on making music, but a reasonable weight on playing games? Does L2 cache make a serious advantage on the speed when it comes to making music? Also any people that have hyperthreading, did you have any problems with it with audio applications or seen any advantages?
I am planning to buy one of the new toshiba p25 or p35 laptops. If anyone has any of them please comment.
Thanks |

For musical puposes, you hardly need a tightly wound up graphics adapter - but the cache could make a serious difference... I would go with the cache, but I also don't play any games on my book

The L2 cache does make a big difference but you should also check which P4 processor the laptops have (Centrino, P4 mobile etc). Not all P4s are the same!

if playing games is the purpose, focus on the video card, if it's the music- focus on the l2 cache which is very important- you don't need strong display card for making music and that's a fact-
now fyi, the cache purpose is to keep data that the processor will need soon- it's a must for any non-word/excel working computer-
i say go for 1mb cache and peace 2u

Thanks for your replies guyz.
I found another one. 3,4ghz HTT 512 kb L2 cache, but 400 Mhz Ram memory speed and 15,4" screen. The other 3.2ghz HTT 1Mb L2 cache, but 333 Mhz Ram memory speed and 17" screen? I should go for the first one, shouldn't I(the first one also has built in subwoofer!)? |

Built in sub...? I would say that's a terrible idea... Maybe that's just because I wreck 3 HDs a year - either to heat, magnetics or shakes... A subwoofer delivering 2 for 3
And how does one put a subwoofer in a laptop...? Or is this, in fact, a joke....? I just don't get it I think
Memory-speed vs. double cache... that's a nasty dilemma. I don't know.

Honest, it's true. It's a dell insiron 9200 laptop. Dell laptops are usually well designed, so I don't think they would put anything in it that would damage it.

I am buying it from ebay, if I found an honest guy amongst all these fraudsters, so I don't have much choice.

My Dillema is over. I bought the best Dell inspiron 9100 laptop money can get for £1200!!!! (including delivery and VAT).
The solution: DELL OUTLET!!!
If you are looking for buying a new laptop it is definetaly woth your attention!!
http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/default.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dfh
You can buy refurbished computers at a fraction of the price, even cheaper than used ones at ebay!!!
And, no. I am not working for Dell.
