is there such a function? in the arrange window of logic if u press "L" on a highlighted part it keeps writing it forwards until you tell it otherwise. this is great for base lines and kicks.... ive tried to make something like this in cubase but with no sucess.
anyone know what im talking about?           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

The L key is a hot key for looping. As far as I know, Cubase is not capable of that...           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

This is a part of the 'object alias' way of working in Logic. Probably one of those things that I will ever give up on Logic for.

@surrender, object alias copy you can create by ctrl+shift+drag an object.

yes, ctrl+d in cubase is the closest you will get to the loop function in logic...

If you press ctrl-d on a part it will duplicate it exactly... the best way to emulate the Logic looping function is to first make a ghost/shared copy (hold shift-alt while dragging [default key-commands]) and then duplicate that. This way you create lots of ghost copies of the original part, rather than lots of new real parts.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Ghost copies... does that mean they will change whenever I change the original part?

That would be wicked!!

That's exactly what they mean. Ghost copies are identified by italic names. You need to be careful though as it's essential to convert them into real parts before you edit them if you want the other ghost parts to remain as they were. You do this by selecting the ghost you want to convert, right-clicking and selecting Edit->Convert to Real Copy from the menu. I have a key-command set up for this.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Alias objects are identified by Italic names - I guess that's how SX called it. Well good to know SX has it           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

Good one!!!!

So I guess the best way to imitate L function on Cubase is first to make a ghost of the event. Then use the alt+drag to duplicate as long as u want!

I tend to create a ghost copy of the part first, then select the ghost and hold down <ctrl>-D until I have enough. If you <cntrl>-D with real parts, you get duplicate real parts; if you <cntrl>-D with ghost parts, you get duplicate ghost parts.

I've modified my keycommands so that dragging with <cntrl> creates a ghost copy, and dragging with <alt> creates a real copy - these are the same as was used by all versions of Cubase prior to SX.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

there is also the repeat function, try looking for it in the key commands, (on my pc is shift+k but im not sure if i modified it or it was default) this allow to repeat N times an object, quite useful also

in logic just press R and you get the same

Default repeat command is <cntrl>-K.

Gadi - once you create a ghost copy of a part, both parts become ghosts, since they both refer to the same data.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
