hey all,

i'm moving soon to new apartment, and i'm looking for new monitors to upgrade my current Alesis...

so i've locked on the two monitors: V6 and BM5a.

i have some difficulties to decide wich would be better for me,
i've heard the dynaudio, they have awesome sound! i've heard them in a small room(6sq/m), a little smaller than i'm about to get into.
i've also heard the KRK, but the V8 monitor, and in a big room (20sq/m), which also sounds great...
now i dont know if there is a big difference between the V8 and the V6, but is seems that the V8 is too big for my room, about 10sq/m...

so could anyone help me decide!!??

thanx.           134-139 bpm

I've never used or heard the KRK V series but i've owned & used both the KRK RP-6 & the Dynaudio BM5A in the past.

I never really liked the KRK RP-6 as it was really hard to get the mix to translate well on to other systems with it. They were a little hi-fi, making everything sound really good which is something you don't want in a monitor.

Then i upgraded to Dynaudio BM5A's which were a big improvement. The only complaint i would have with them is that they do not go down very low but as you say you have a small room so they would do you just fine.

I later upgraded to Dynaudio BM6A which in turn were much better than their smaller brothers. So if you can wait & be patient & save some more i would suggest you get those.           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

well the BM6A is a dream ofcourse... but they are really expensive here in israel, so i've started to look at the KRK...

anyhow, i'm really intrested in the V6 monitor, because it has more bass response than the BM5A, but thats only on the paper, i have heared the BM5A, and i've heard how transparent they are, but they are still more expensive then the RP8 or the V6!
so actually i need some crushing reason why to buy the dynaudio or the krk...

If you got the money, buy the BM15A or ones with not less than 9" woofer. My experience is, it's not about how small your room is, but how deep your bass response is.

metalball,

I would also have a look at the ADAM A7 as they're in the same price range as the BM5A's. They've also gotten great reviews & i've read very positive feeback from people who use them.

The best way would be to ask a shop to let you audition a couple of monitors in your room. This way you can see which one best suits you.

P.S. If the BM6A is out of your budget you could also look for the passive version.           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

well actually i've reviewed the A7 already, and i dont know why, i've just diceded to lock down on 2 monitors... and they were the KRK and the Dynaudio...

the passive version is out of the question because i dont have an amp, and i'd really preffer active monitors.

the big question that drives me crazy and wont let me decide is that the BM5A (which i think a better monitor) won't be enough for my future room... i meen too little bass response...
and scince the BM6A are far too expensive, i must find good alternative...

Well you could always get the BM5A now & should you ever move into a bigger room in the future you can get yourself a subwoofer.           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

I've heard KRK monitors (I think V8) and they were not nearly as good as Dynaudio.

heh... its also about how deep your pocket is. out of your options the bm5a is the wisest choice. You can always get a the sub later when you have the money. the combo bm5a + sub is better than just having the bm6.

the bm5 are a far better choice than the krk.. i got the bm5a and was testing before i got them many monitors in this price range or less.
bm5a sounded the best choice for mixing next choice where the smaller genelecs and the adam a7 altough i liked alot the adam i found them to on the bright side and the genelec where just to tiny.
had also listened to the 8' krk as they where little cheaper than the bm5a they where nice to listen to but would not trust them for critical mixing.
bm5a are tight and transparent as a 1000euro monitor can be they lack inthe low end and that is a minus they are also lacking power.
but in my opinion these are thebest buy in the 1000 euro price range.           http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

wow. it seems like everyone thinks the same here...
Can't possibly go against the flow

I have BM5a in my studio, I love them. They sound horribly good and can to quite high volume too. Also, as Get-a-Fix mentined, you can buy a dedicated BM series subwoofer in the future for lower end if needed at all.
My mate has the V6, they sound quite good indeed.

Go for the BM5a, it's what everyone thinks LOL

I have KRK RP-8's and I feel like I can trust my mixes on them (though I came from some pretty crappy monitors). It's like night and day though. I had Behringer Truth 2031A monitors for a while. I was never "sure" about anything with my mixes. I always kinda felt like I was shooting in the dark. Now I feel very confident with what I'm doing with my mixes. The best thing to do is to listen to them at a store if possible. I really think either monitor will be sufficient for you to make good mixes on. It's just a matter of getting to know them at this point.

Sounds like you already made a decision though, just listen to them if you can, I found this very important. I listened to the Bm5a's recently at Guitar Center. I brought one of my favorite albums in that I knew well. I listened to it on lots of speakers. The Bm5a's seem to be the most revealing, I could hear all the sounds in a very balanced fashion. The only thing is it did seem to lack low end. I decided when I go that route, just to save and wait till I can get the BM6a's. For now my KRK's work fine.

Good luck in what ever choice you make

Cheers,
