Hey people, I "must" (that's a long story, so...) choose between a KRK Rokit 8 near-field active monitor and an Audiotrak Maya 1010 (with external ins/outs box) soundcard.
Both are new and cost the same price!
I have monitors: Samson 65a (active) and Yamaha NS10 (I don't use this one) and I have soundcard: Audiophile 2496.
What do I do?
Maya is better than Audiophile? (better converters AD-DA??????) |

Depends what you need.
Do you need a multiple recording interface or a multiple output interface? reglardless of the a/d/a.
Frankly the audiophile is a great card for all that you need to do on your computer.
Replacing budget monitors is a good idea - but replacing them on another budget serie - I wouldn't do it. If you really like KRK you can aim at their higher price more accurate monitors.
I would suggest getting good monitors like mackie, adam, genelec or dynaudio.
just my 2 agorot.

I think KRK have high-end monitors used by a lot of famous singer/groups (Samson doesn't have it - only low-budget monitors) and KRK RoKit 8 is much better than Samson 65a. But I really don't know the Maya 1010 soundcard. I don't know if its converters are good, if this soundcard is better than Audiophile etc.
I really need to decide till tuesday!
Thanks for helping me! |

so are you choosing between soundcard and monitors or do you want both?
About KRK rockit, the Rockit series itself is budget. The V2 series are the new KRK of the adequate quality.
And you still haven't wrote, what do you want from your soundcard... The audiophile is a good card for its purpose and intentions.

i heared the krk v2's and personaly i think they suck.,
the low end is totaly out of controll.., very bloated.,
otoh they can handle a lot of power., but that's not nessesarily a good thing cause at lower levels they sound unbalanced.

Sell me your Yamaha NS10 if your not using it!!!
Get something sounding good on that and it will sound great anywhere you listen to it after....
As Trip said , go for the higher models KRK do as the Rockit is a bit lame... but I'd go for some Genelecs or Dynaudio but no mackies or Adams man...
And why not look at some nice PMC's ??
