Why not go for a Microbrute or a MS-20 mini or a Bass Station II?
My nephew has MicroKorg and it's very limited.

I believe it's got the MS 2000 engine but on a smaller package and a much worse interface. would take Virus, Nord or Blofeld over it (this includes Radias, an evolution of the MS2000 engine) as for Virtual Analogue hardware.
otherwise, Pulse 2, MS20 mini, MiniBrute, Bass Station 2 if you want analogue. DSI Evolver, if you'd like to have both (specially the MEK if you can find one) |

I need to look cloaser DSI evolver.
he has step sequencer its a big plus, but... can I play on this from external midi keyboard or sending midi notes from daw? |

if you go for your first hw synth go for a nord rack or old virus rack b/c . you can find em cheap 2nd hand.
you cant go wrong with these.
but ofcourse depends of what kind of sound do you need/want. if you search something full analog for example you have to look something else.
