Hi everyone !
I decided to move on to hardware musical equipement, and this groovebox really caught my attention...
What's your opinion on this piece of hardware ?
I'll be using it to make Dark-Psy tracks especially...
Thanks for your feedback |

forget it...
get korg ms-20 controller with legacy collection..big fun..you can even controll every other synth with it..if its supportet to midi learn...
the esx-1 got just audio ins and outs..so no midi triggering available..my friend got one,but is not happy with it actualy..runs out of sync and just not so much fun..i mean, its a groove box and in my opinion not that flexible like if you use battery/midi..and if you search for specific analog sounding toy..get a nice synth..
but the legacy controller is quite nice, cause its kind of modulated synth/midi controller with patchcords and stuff like that..it comes with 4 or 5 synths from the legacy collection..and all of them even as fx version..good fun..
enjoy!

i do like the master delay on this lil machine, makes wicked breaks.! yes it not nearly as accurate as battery or contact, but is loads of fun for live tweaking... remember recording audio in real time????

The thing is, I already have a very good midi controller (Axiom 49), and I intend to use the ESX-1 alone, without any other soft/hardware, so the synchro is not a problem for me.
I saw someone doing a *kickass* live session using this piece of hardware (and a compressor), and even if I know that doesn't mean alot, doesn't it still shows that the machine got some nice potential ? |

well..if you wanna do it..i cannot stop you..but i think for that money you can get something nicer..like a waldorf blofeld and some triggerpads or something..would focus on just one thing..either nice computer based setup with your nice axiom and an additional analog synth..
or that groovebox thing..
i own an axiom as well..and for a decent live setup..where you need lots of potis to control several parameter..i would go for the ms-20..actualy thats exactly the setup i`m working on with my friend..he got the ms-20,i got the axiom..and we plan to set it up all with ableton live on my mac..so one big liveset in one project..and lots of control with ms-20 and the axiom..will be very good fun someday..;9
just my thoughts..

It's funny that you mention the Blofeld, as I am *very* attracted by this lil' thingie...
The only reason I'm not atracted by the Korg MS20 is that I'd like to move on to full hardware stuff... ...not to mention that if possible i'd like to avoid buying a synth with keys, as I fell that I have alread put enough money tinto the axiom which has a very good touch...
Seems like going hardware is going to take longer than expected : D |

I don't recommend to move hardware.... controllers tones of good plugins... this is the easiest and best thing you can get for yourself...
moving hardware is probably not gonna fill the gap. keep on workin with your computer... |

The first hardware you should get would be good monitors, a good audio i/o, acoustics in your studio. Maybe a DSP. Only then I'd think about getting synths and sound generating hardware.
On the other hand, if you want it for live performances it can be preety good, but someone mentioned that it doesn't have MIDI sync, so I'm not sure about that.

I already have good studio monitors, aswell as a good soundcard, so I feel like I already have enough stuff to do software oriented production for a while, especially considering that I'm a newb and I'll have lots of practice to do before manipulating all the stuff I own with ease...
The only reason I wanted to buy something hardware was to have a glimpse of this other approach... ...and live performance is definately something that turns me on !
You mentionned that the Korg ESX-1 doesn't have a MIDI sync, is it of any importance if I'm going to use it alone, directly wired to my mixer and without any other sound source ? |

Oh well, I suppose I won't buy anything right now and think a bit about it, this cannot hurt...

the korg esx1 does have midi sync, and more than a groovebox is a nice realtime sampler.
i dont think you can do the same real time sampling of a live input the way the korg does with kontakt or any other software sampler. but hell anyway, f.. hardware, nothing beats poping up a nice vst and get on with it.
