CHICAGO'S ONLY ASIAN MASSIVE BREAKS NIGHT

Janaka Selekta
Janaka’s DJ skills were recognized by the San Francisco community in 2004 when he received the reader’s poll award for best DJ (SF Guardian). Bringing a dancer’s sensibility to the decks, Janaka intuitively breaks down tracks into their constituent parts and recreates them on the fly to make any dancefloor react. His unique sound weaves original songs and homemade bootlegs with floor stomping tracks from around the planet.

Producer
Janaka's passion for deconstructing and reconstructing tunes as a DJ has progressed him into the engineering and compositional world of song writing. With songs on the critically acclaimed 'Dhamaal Soundsystem' album, international releases on One World Music compilation 'Moving Stillness' and tracks licensed to one of the hottest X-box 360 video games ‘Project Gotham Racing 3’ and a major movie release 'Hiding Vidya' Janaka is set to release his much anticipated full length album in 2006.

Janaka’s song writing has garnered the respect of Dr. Das of Asian Dub Foundation who collaborates on a number of Janaka’s songs with his uniquely dubby bass style. Janaka’s ruff breakbeat tune 'Bol Breaker' broke BBC Radio 1’s Bobby and Nihal’s Top 10 and 'Dhamaal Soundsystem' has broken the iTunes Top 20 Electronic Music Chart.

Remixer
In demand for his remix work, Janaka has remixed 2 Asian Dub Foundation tracks from their 2005 release 'Tank' as well as remixes for Cheb i Sabbah and Karsh Kale soon to be released on Six Degrees Records.

The Dhamaal Artist Collective
Janaka Selekta is also the cofounder of Dhamaal, a 20 person strong artist collective, which after 6 years of persistent growth has become the foundation for the massive showcase of South Asian and World music event; Worldly at super club 1015 Folsom.
