Just a thought.... I may be young and a student (which causes me not to have much time to produce for now) but I have come to a realization about the trance scene. People out to produce this music must stop asking questions about equipment (as I have in the past lol) and produce music with what they have. I am currently stopping to produce and all I'm doing is learning piano. I do not want to disrespect the music, and would rather come back stronger with a strong music knowledge in a few years. It occurs to me that a good artist is a good artist, and that given any medium they should make art. There are points when you are making up a song at which if you make one wrong decision the whole song could sound like crap. Only a strong musical knowledge/talent will prevent this. When I requested information about music theory little was given to me about this and this actually surprised me. I think that effort must be made to learn music in order to make trance, only then will the trance evolve and live on. |

I agree with u since i´m doing something similar i didn´t stopped producing, but now i´m more focused on learning piano, music has always been made by musicians, and yes is a disrespect in mkst cases since some people just want to learn scales on a web site or think that porduction skills are sold on ebay or shit like that, i agree some people have talent and make great music without knowing too much about it., but let´s face it tons of guys think that by getting all software and tons of plug ins and pressing space bar in the pc music will come out by magic.
Trance is still music so i encourage people to respect music by studying music, and yes only then will the trance evolve and live on. |

Yep, there's some truth in that i guess. But How much of electronic music actually consists of recordings of people playing instruments ? Most electronic music is composed and arranged and composing and arranging isn't the same as playing and improvising. Maybe it's best to use the best of both worlds. First making a composition, and then playing and recording it and then arrange the results.

i would take what u said abou having knowledge\talent
if u "have it" u have it!
no one can doubt your talent
if not...go and learn all u can
this is the best way and maybe only efficient way
asking questions is not bad at all
is part of learning
but hoping it will lead anywhere is wrong
and to people who know hebrew
"bishvil kavod tzarich laavod"
if any1 can translate ill be ahppy |

Asking questions is essential but i´ve read some questions like "where can i learn piano in 2 weeks" thats not the right questions i´m sure. It´s a learning process that takes time 4 example i studied sound engineering and now i´m learining piano and still can make tracks the way i want them to sound and i don´t complain really i´m happy with my learning process. Patience is one of the keys . |

Its just about practice I guess.. Without even realizing it you are gaining creativity and talent in each song you do.. Plus, and perhaps most importantly, you are creating your own ways of expression (or in other words, creating your own style). |

Hello chorman,
im speaking about the musicians & theory background whit mekkanika &, a lot of headliners into the psy trance scene are musicians before start the "techno" world.
My personal experience : i saw a lot of musicians (whit no talent) working hard for learn theory & the good feelings for compose a track (or play), after a few years learning, they arrive to compose & play pretty good.
Sometime we need time for "creating our way of expression" or find our talent for play/compose/mix music.
& also our education make a WALL from your wishes to your real act.
Stop thinking we born whit a special gift for something,, we are all most all the same,,
Peace http://mastermargherita.com |

well, knowing your equipment is part of getting the best sounds you can.
synth-wise, you don't need a nord, virus or andromeda to make all those crazy bleeps but it helps to know wich features are usefull and what a certain type of modulation does to a sound.
no one is born with the ability to make kiler tracks...
i think edison said this: 10% of inspiration and 90% of sweating
being gifted is only 10% ;D
the other 90% is learning, listenig, asking questions and being wrong a lot of times
also, knowledge is poer and power corrupts... so... be very afraid
  roll a joint or STFU :) |

i must add
that learning composing and shit is just the language rulez
u must have them to express your self
u can try writing words from hearing but u ay have mistakes if u dont know grammer
same
here u can write great music but maybe youll have unfortunate mistakes if u knew enough music theory |
