Is it too much to ask for this artist to have some sort of live element in their performances.
I would say: "Yes!"
At least i dont expect nor care... we had this discussion before, and some dudes claimes that they are "more live" while I claim they are not! Few people tho, from ooooold days have hardware sequencers and bring 600 kg gear to the stage... (while most people ONLY used a computer for their 3 albums) ...
Some are 4 people on stage to try and add more live to the live. You rather pay for that ?
So back to the argument... why dont those artists twiddle a melody out of that box AND actually tweak them knobs ?
Majority prolly never used a hardware synth, and so leading back to; would you like someone who cant play an instrument to play you a solo in a track JUST because you then would get the sensation it was more live ???
Let the artists be "artists" and save your little prayer for someone who CAN care... cuz i really doubt, that the people you have in mind, does.

Still there is nice to hear some unreleased, new versions, new Vs tracks in a "live" set from ur favourite artists. There is some nice stuff u can do only with a midikeyboard and a computer to spice up a set. And not to be forgotten, its like tons of more years of practis to learn how to make a tune then to learn how to mix it in a dj set.
But its funny why almost every artist ask for a virus or a nordlead and never use it.
Like a trademark so people can see its a liveset, if there is a nordlead on the stage, the dude is living it.
Like Erez from infected, banging them synths in every set they plays, im sure he can play them like no one else in this scene, but are he using them like he makes it look like?

I don't think anybody is arguing that. Even if you bring a doepfer on stage there's no guarantee you're going to do more than 'knob twist.'
I think the original goal of the thread was to request some interaction with the music not directly involved with the computer ex. "some melodies on a guitar, analog synth or something"
Whether it's with a true analog synth or a MIDI controller, you're just knob twisting. It's electronic music. If you're more worried about what the performer looks like they're doing on stage than having fun and dancing then you shouldn't be there. If you want guitars and more organic "live" elements, go to a rock show.

^^So why everybody is pretending doing something live if nobody cares?
thats kind of strange. i wonder why dj's are so undervalued these days.

I dont think anybody is loosing any sleep over this but I think people can relate when you have been dancing for a couple of hours and you go to a corner to have drink and rest and you start to look at the live act and you see him only waving his hand in the air and looking at his screens doing nothing. Not even knob twisting I have seen peole just pop in some cds!
There is point when I was going to many live acts between 2000 and 2003 and I even have videos where you see people like ticon palying a violin, xenomorph neuromotor playing some melodies on nord or guitar same with skazi, xerox, playing some pads, psyside sun project also and see them playing not just pretend. May be things have chance like Wizack says and nobody does this any more!

It's incredibly boring to just stand still clicking for 2 hours. My experience is that the people interested in what the performer is doing on stage are other producers and DJs, which in turn end up arguing here endlessly about it. And yes, I'm a hypocrite.

there is one thing makes me really sorry: we have this wonderful software called ableton live, designed for live performance, gives you absolute freedom for manipulating your sound, and people go on stage with super pro laptops and don't use this digital blessing... or even abuse it... creating a session with the wav tracks and press play... whoa!
this is a very very simple program with great functions and just a few artists use it properly in this scene.
artists really don't bother playing live because they don't know how big pleasure it is.

That's the $64,000 question... the elephant in the room that no-one wants to talk about.

There are other things you could be doing rather than pretending to do something you're not (ie. knob twisting). Checking your emails, working on your Myspace page, browsing for porn. Funny though; since when was DJing with a laptop actually worth four or more times as much as DJing that exact same set off CD?

I think what this scene needs is for people who make music but don't play instruments in the conventional sense is to get into visuals. If they can provide a great visual show aswell as a good set ( or cd) then I won't mind them dancing round the decks.
I mean fuck it just leave the shit playing and get on the dance floor!

Pretty sure it wasn't producers or DJs who started this thread, or posted most of the replies on the first page.
DJing on a laptop isn't worth more than DJing on decks, DJing your own tracks on a laptop is. I'm not saying it's right, but unfortunately that's how is.
And maybe they aren't all producers, but the people replying here are much more dedicated to the music than 90% of the people I've met at parties..that's all I was pointing out.

I find it hilarious to see artists twisting knobs as if they're doing some hard physical work like push ups or something...twisting their entire arm from the shoulder down to the elbows and wrists...and it's usually something so insignificant like a gain or lo/mi/hi knob...they end up sweating and loose 3 kilos over some fake performance as if that justifies getting paid DJ Dovla | Interchill Records, Flow Records
