As I look on you tube some of the live performances on some of the festivals, is it me but alot of this people are just knob twisting their way into their perfomances. I mean at least give me some melodies on a guitar, analog synth or something. This brings the arguement is this real music or just computer music!? I never had question about this but now I do.
Is it too much to ask for this artist to have some sort of live element in their performances. |

The problem is the term "Live act", we need a proper definition and some new term for the average "presss play and shake your hands performance"
The second need a name like "unique dj set", "special dj set", "live set" or what ever.
the problem i not that they do it this way but the cheating in naming it a "live act" when clearly its not.

You know what I mean computer music meaning may be you only sell me your set on cubase or what ever you use I cut a picture of you and have that play by it self lord knows it would be alot cheaper and better for the enviroment ha ha ha lol
I was only kidding of course! That comment is from people who dont listen to electronic music and make that arguement. |

Labeling of acts usually is the promoters business. Another point to consider is that the promoters may not know exactly what the act has in store for their performance and calling them a live is just easier than asking.
I believe the appropriate label for a NOT live set is an 'original dj set' seeing as how its a dj set of original tracks. However, this debate is pointless unless the fingers are pointed at the appropriate people. |

Pointless to you but its reality that many people do that, NOT ALL ofcourse because there are artist who do take the initiative to play some live elements. Remember I am consumer of this music so I can make suggestions not demand or personal attacks.
Who would be the appropiate people? |

My comment was more in response to logins comment about proper labeling of the performance.
If you are looking at the situation from the position you just explained, where the artists need to take responsibility and add live elements to their performance then I suppose the artists would be the appropriate people.
I was looking at it from a perspective where a dj style, or press play set simply needs to be indicated on the flyer presented to the consumer by the party promoters. Which, would leave the promoters as the appropriate people.
I suppose the best way to fix the issue would be to take action on both sides. Encouraging artists to take more action in their sets as well as encouraging promoters to be honest about the talent they're bringing.
As for the original topic of discussion, I also feel things could be added to make psytrance a more 'live' experience. Right now I have a press play set with the tracks mixed in real time. I don't expect this to last long. Right now things are new and the listeners are still entertained by the music as they've never heard it before. I have plans to add live elements to this set as I continue as well as working on a completely live performance to compliment. I'd hope every psytrance artist that performs has some desire to add more interaction with their live performances as their skills grow. |

Yes there was misunderstanding there, for me going to a party with an international live act(may be three times a year) has become an investment because of the cost of gasoline drinks entrance girlfriend and other things. So if I am going to make that investment I think I wanna see some real live action. That is all I m saying. |

^^thats the point. Promoters are making an investment and if you pay an artist for a "live act" (because many of them charge different prices for their live and their dj set) you expect the artist will do something special to justify the payment.

So in order for it to be live, I need to take a Doepfer on stage?

I don't think anybody is arguing that. Even if you bring a doepfer on stage there's no guarantee you're going to do more than 'knob twist.'
I think the original goal of the thread was to request some interaction with the music not directly involved with the computer ex. "some melodies on a guitar, analog synth or something" |
