well it seems like everyone is confused about somethin dont matter how pro u think u are or anything but heres my quest-i-on,
On my Genelec monitors [yes i have them] i dont have bal or unbal in, i think [i have XLR or 1/4 inch in]...i dont know what [bal or unbal] means but, im thinking of purchasing a pair of Adam A7's, and I see RCA in! huh?? RCA in?
what the point my mackie mixer dont have many RCA out, in fact only a pair of tape in and out, and also i dont understand what bal or unbal means lol, cuz on the back of the back of the Adam A7's the XLR [i think] is bal and the RCA is the [unbal], i think i got those two mixed up, i forget but, can someone shed some light on this bal or unbal thingy/ thanx, ill probably sound like a goof even though ive been making music for awhile now. hehe.

its pretty simple...
balanced cable uses a 2nd line with the same signal (just phase inverted) as a copy to eleminate noise that hooks on the cable...before your sound goes in the cable it gets copied and one of the signals gets phase inverted, then the sound goes thru the cable where the outside noise hooks up booth signals, and at the ins of your monitors (or whatever) the copy of the signal gets re-inverted so the signal eliminates and you gain +6db
but this works just when the outputs of your interface are also balanced! otherwise it wouldnt get inverted at the output, and just inverted at your monitors, so the signal eliminates and you think your monitors are broken
oh and unbalanced cables dont use this trick, they are just plain cables that grab the noise https://soundcloud.com/hazak

And just to add, certain things increase the likelyhood of noise being picked up on cables: like the length of cable, how effective the shielding, the quality of the conductor, proximity to electromagnetic interference (power supplies, lighting, etc). So the balanced cables are a way to help deal with these signal quality factors.

Oh ok its about the noise factor...always wondered about that, anyway why would the Adam A7's have RCA in? |

You can always buy XLR to RCA cable, so its no problem connecting..
But u must have a card of course that supports balanced out like said before..
For instance, on my card I can choose between balanced xlr or unbalanced rca.. I just flip the card..
So u think adam is better choise than genelec?

hmmm well for me i use 1/4 inch cords, even for my genelec system i dont use XLR, so i would adapt RCA to 1/4 inch right/ i think so anyway. and my setup goes from my audio interface, to my mixer, to my speakers, and yeah there is some noise because i have the things cranked so high,
ummm what do you mean when u say ''flip the card'' and what card, your sound card?
i definately recommend Genelec, you can get them custom,b ut im prolly getting a pair of these for my second computer, i heard the sound of em and was happy, on my second computer i currently use high fi speakers, but they are fine...untill your talking about compresion, then the trouble begins as a person wouldn't know what they are really mixing...so i prefer genelec, or adam i guess. |

Probably to allow them to be connected to other non-pro applications. To have another option of conectivity...
