hello guys...

i have a cheap, very cheap speakers that i have been using for producing my tracks on ableton...using notebook soundcard...

Now i bought a Traktor audio dj2 interface and a Sennheiser HD439 (17-22.500hz response)

i have been using the headphone for 3 weeks and i havent started to produce any new music...

i havent noticied nothing listening to Goa Trance, Full ON, an many genres, actual they sound very nice, smoth, clear (flat response phone) then i would ever listen in my spearkers...

than i started to produce a new track and BAM, every Kick i creat sound lick Bummmm Bummmzzz (little bit metallic), it shakes the driver ( i have done some 80hours of burning)it sounds weird, its not the same clear "psy" sound kick i heared in my speakers, they sound different...

when im listening a psytrance track i see the kick quite fine on every music, even on my own recording, but i see its a little be different on speakers (monitors too ive heard)that have much better sounding.

there is my doubt, for a 100 dollars headphone and on many others headphones, its normal and ok to hear the kick differently?its about the frequency range?or its just Sennheiser HD 439 headphones and few others?

its not soo bad at all, as i low the volume, and introduce the kick with other instruments its sounds ok, but im worried, i can only produce on headphones, cant use speakers anymore

ps: when i loud up my speakers i heard the DUmmzz sound too           https://soundcloud.com/ancientaliengoa

kicks sound different on cans and really expensive speakers too. unless you have an anechoic chamber for a studio, the room is gonna MASSIVELY affect the sound, especially the low frequencies.

if you are using cheap speakers and cheap headphones in an untreated room, then to be honest you can't really trust either. you can however, learn to make great mixes on them, as long as you reference everything on both playback systems (comparing them to commercial tracks that you already like), and try to take your mixes to other locations and sound systems to hear how they sound there too.

good luck!           http://hermetechmastering.com : http://www.discogs.com/artist/Gregg+Janman : http://soundcloud.com/babaluma

as long as you can tell the difference between your kicks/tracks and others' kicks/tracks then your monitoring situation is high quality enough for you to progress and keep learning.

Of course it could probably be better, and you should expect it to take a couple weeks to a couple months for your ears to get used to any change in how you monitor...

It'd be one thing if you could do something about your situation right now (like oh I'm getting slapback echo in my room, I can make some cheap treatment or hang up some sheets/a spare bed etc etc) but if this is the best you have access to at this moment (headphones) then just go in and do the best you can and as babaluma said take your tracks and test them on as many systems as you can to see how they translate

ok soo my speakers as my only reference on years seems quite nice hearing, you say on expensive speakers, monitors, haedhpones, i would see differences, maybe worst quality, worst production....

for me to relax (i expend 500 brazillian bucks on this headphone, its how its priced here) the kick would have that low end Bummmffzzz bummfff (shaking the drivers on my ears) on my phone as i see it on high volume (a good phone showing the right frequencys?...)

100dollars is cheap for americans and europeans...i think they are good enought for a noob producer hehehehehehe but u tell me if u use phone you dont have this problem...

well thanks alot

im very worried cause i just want to use my headphones for production, and everthing sounds fines just the kick...i can use the speakers as reference, to know how its sounding on both, cause people who will hear my song will be using one or another           https://soundcloud.com/ancientaliengoa

thanks...

the problem i discovered now is that there is difference if u use Cans or Speakers to listen music in ur house,(partys use large speakers so is the same, AND, the most important for a producer)

soo many people will hear my sound on cloud on phones or speakers and i will not have the nice kick sound of speakers on headhpone...thats an unfortunally and im frustated...my kick always sound good on speakers and well done, and on phones i need to improve, so i ask again (sorry for my preocupation)i should trust 150 brazilians royals speaker or a 500 royals sennheiser phone sound?

i think my speakers are not so wrong, they are quite fine for a noob productor, maybe they are just showing the right speakers response to kicks...

damm i would like to know if there is many producers only using phones and seeing this kick difference...

ive bein doing a test at 70% of my speakers volume hearing kick samples it got that distortion Tumbbbvvvvvv (driveres jumping)

as the headphone i hear on 90% of the volume i got this distortion higher (and geting afraid to fuck my Cans)as it jump my drivers (normal on phones?im still afraid i fucked mine somehow but i got very carefull with burn-in process and havent stressed it)

maybe is how it is

cause i hear many more sounds cleary mixing at headphone instead the speakers, full volume rock music, with drums, distortion guitars dont jump my drivers...only psytrance tracks....this shit can be damaged

and my ears must get used with new headphone sound,it changed the sonority??

sorry many questions im worried

I had to invest to Focusrite VRM box, but that sucker didn't co-operate well with RME somehow, so i didnt get use to those rooms jet, but it had a big effect to the sound from K701, dunno jet was it good or bad regarding the mixing issues..

But now i'm testing 112 redline monitor plugin, and lets see how it turns to be..

Our buildings walls is so paper that i can hear even when my neighbour farts so i better close myself inside headphones than start imagine how they would smell           - - - - -

Try to save up for good monitors and room treatment. That is the best way to ensure your mixes translate well to other soundsystem (headphones and speakers).

And listen on many different systems to get an overall soundimage of your track.

Many of the issues you are running into have been mentioned already on the forum. I'd recommend to read alot of posts on this forum, it will teach you alot!           soundcloud.com/supergroover

What supergroover said.
btw. if you look in this forum you will come across all kinds of threads, such as "The Mother of all Monitors" and The Mother of all Basslines"!

While these are arduous to scroll through because not every article in these threads is necessarily informative, there is a lot of really good info in there which helped me a lot. Granted, it took time to sort through it all, but it's all there!. I recommend not to mix with cans at all, but to at most use them as a very quick reference and to immediately switch to your monitors again...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:
