Hello
I almost always use the kbbb pattern and I have the problem that the kick overlaying the first bass note .
It sounds very messy and unclear . I tried to shorten the kick with the time stretch function in Cubase but it makes the kick sound pretty strange .
How I can fix this problem?

if you use a wav sample you can trim the last part that overlaps the bass note and shorten it. cut the last part out of it and make a volume curve to loose the snap sound.
otherwise, use an envelope to shape the tail of the kick so it doesn't overlap.
if you timestretch you change the initial sound of the kick and make another one out of it.
hope it helps.

what i do is, i use ism bazzism for my kicks.
sort out the bpm i will use.
then sort out how long a 1/16th note will be on 145bpm for example. (is about 103ms i think)
then change the decay and other settings so the kick is about 103ms long.
Also check the bassline for how long the notes are and then change them in relation of eachother.

Yes, i guess sidechaining the kick and bass here would solve it. And there are plenty of topics about that in here. Or, change to another kick perhaps with not that long sustaining tail.

i guess most synths can give you decent kicks. depending on your DAW you are probably set already with the built in ones. but bazzism is a specialised and flexible tool for psy kicks and pretty cheap. zebra and ace are also good for kicks if you have those.
another thing you can do with overlapping kick and bass is proper eq'ing. as the kick will be at its fundamental when the first bass note starts playing you can eq the kick's frequency out of your bass. you will lose some oomph from your bass, but will generally get a much clearer low end if you choose to leave your extreme low end to either the kick or the bass but not both (especially on medium-quality soundsystems you'd typically find at indoor parties). this can also be used in conjunction with sidechaining, so you'll can take more subtle settings on the compressor as well as the eq.

I find that most good psykicks have a giant hole in them around 500-1000 Hz, so I divide the bass into two components, A) below 400 or so Hz and above 1200 or so Hz and B) everything in between. I use inverted phase frequency separation to do this (see:
. )
Then I sidechain the region A) of the bass to the kick so that it cuts when the kick hits. This removes frequencies where the kick is prominent, but leaves a lot of mids in the bass so the groove persists.
Please chime in if you use a similar technique or know of a way to improve this method...

Smack a damper on it, and tell that kick to behave!

When you mention things like that, it might be nice to include a link
