its like chosing between a girl's boobies or ass... you just can't go for either, they balance each other and when you think you have decided, a new track / chick comes in and makes you change your mind... again.

I like fullon basslines in which bass is slightly higher in volume than the kick. I also tend to even kick's n bass click (hi fqncies)... and normally i make my bass according to the kick's timber not otherwise since i usually find it a little hard to determine and calculate the kick's "tone" while crafting it.

Ultrabeat is great for creating tuned kick drums as you dial in the note/frequency of the sustained "boom" of the kick, and the frequency at which the oscillator will start sweeping. Then you have the intuitive envelope generator to determine the slope to create "that" trance kick for the vibe of each tune.
Then you start playing with all the other parameters...lush!
I used to make my own kicks using the Doepfer modular, where I would use a soft synth to tune the analog oscillator and then start modulating it...ahh those where the days
