I use many one shots, including kicks, hats, percussions etc on audio channels, in my opinion it is much more accurate and easy to handle. Sequences that I write thru sampler usually I export and deal with them in audio format afterwards.
About the speed and workflow, well it is about yer technique like everything else. If you got your little tricks / methods it is as fast as working with a sampler and even better in my opinion.
Even in cases u want to play around with sample or sequence of drumming pattern using filters etc, today u have powerful filtering tools such as Korg etc...

Some people say using audio sounds better, but i still use battery 2 or kontakt two since then i can edit the sample later on; ie. can edit pitch, attack, length of what is played etc, or easily change between different kick samples to see which one suits the track best.
Whatever works for you i guess |

Yeah - I use battery for basic drums - kick, hats etc then audio for more intricate drum loops, percussion cymbals etc. I reckon using a mixture of the two approaches is best: For the core drum parts you need the ability to easily audiiton and change samples but for one off sounds and loops you can sacrifice this in exchange for the 'hands on' editing and tweaking offered by audio tracks.
The MAJOR advantage of using a sampler for basic drums is that you can easily flick between sounds and audition them while the track is playing to get the best fit for the tune. |

4 the kick i use the audio track. you should only use a sample player if you need its functions, otherwise its not necessary, but in all its still a audio file if you use a sampler. so its still the same quality of sound but it takes cpu power. especially the battery2 i guess
