Hi i just i wonder if i should have my kickdrum in stereo or mono ?
When i make mine in fruity loops and export to soundforge they are in stereo.Do i have to convert to mono and import the kick into fruity loops again ?

Kicks should be in mono.
A stereo file can still be mono if the two channels are identical.
A stereo file takes up two times the space and requires two times processing power so keep mono sounds in mono files.

yeah with fruity it would work diffrent

you need to make sure that your kick channel stereo width is 0

or.. make sure first thing in soundforge that its mono file. it will be mono after as well.

if u close stereo width for stereo file you *might* meet the phase problem.          www.sattelbattle.com

Ok so the kick should be in mono.Lately i´ve been
panning different kicks from zero ,some right and some left in fruity, and i does sound good, but is it the wrong way to do it ?
Ok so the first thing i should do is to convert my kicks to mono
before i open them i fruity loops ?

fruity loops has stereo separation in every mixer channel by default... just turn the knob to merge and that should do it nothing wrong i think

also i think its ok to use stereo kick just have to use some plugin like otiumfx bassline to merge down the lower fequencies and leave the higher stereo

besides taking up more processing power; audibly a stereo kick is pretty much the same as a mono.

it sounds the same don't it?

It does not have any significant effect on the overall sound of track.

correct?

me too
i think mono is better. but!

imagine u want to add a small very short reverb to the mid range of the kik, where the punch is. this is very good triky cuz it gives some extra power and presence to the kik. but a very slight reverb. if u extract this part of the kik (let sey via bus and via EQing) I think this buss should be stereo for the reverb.

but in general it must be mono..
chek some enichkin traks to hear what i mean with the reverbed mids of a kik

as Avs said a stereo file can be mono (if you export your kick track mono by bouncing the stereo master, the file ll be in stereo but it s still in the center, same as mono) so it s not a problem stereo or mono if it s in the center, for more power.

Sorry still unsure abot this, a stereo file can still be mono if the two channels are identical that´s true.
So again if i export my layered kick and it has been panned differently. One kick panned left and another right has it then become a stereo kick which i have to convert back to mono ?

i believe that gatakas kicks are definately NOT mono.they are in the center but they have STEREO width. He puts a phaser over his kick (which makes the wave have a dip then a hump after the nock) bounces, then narrows the stereo width with something like s1 imager.check the width with paz analyzer. They are not mono.

i stand corrected. they are mono sorry. the hump thing is made by modulating the amplitude.

as long as it sounds good, there's no wrong way just do it the way you think it sounds best, that's the best recipe imo. it's good to try all the different ways, but if you have tried the "standard correct" ways and feel that your "incorrect" way sounds better, go for your way!! never kill innovation just for the sake of the "standard"

good luck and have fun tweaking
