Hello..

i really despair of the sound of my kickdrums...so its like..i just use a sampled kick..load it into cubase ..set it 4times in a bar as usual...but as soon as i loop it about several bars...it totaly fucks up to an unusable sound...

http://www.sendspace.com/file/plz578

here is an example of how the sound of the kick changes...i cutted a band so that you can concentrate on

the subbass..

ere is another example of how it sounds like together with the bass..i opened the band so that you can easily hear how this affect detroyes the sound..really don`t know what to do...it happens with a lot of kickdrums..

kick is fine.. only problem it sounds to me its that is clipping...
with the bass its overlapping and clipping some more with allot of phasing issues.

lower ur volumes and short out ur frequencies.           http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

hm..no..actualy nothing clips here in cubase...the level is at -6db..and its sidechained...the kick is goes until 1.1.1.3...i could try to timestrech it to 1.1.1.2 but then the kick sounds bad..

ok...eq helps a bit but there are still problems with phasing..but that might be the only solution i guess..           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

I am having trouble hearing any real difference in your first sample in my headphones. It might be too low frequency for me to hear in them.

I don't have anything better to listen to it on right now. Are you producing with a subwoofer? A lot of people say people say a subwoofer is a bad choice, although a friend of mine who is quite good likes to use one.

The second sample, I do hear a problem, and I believe it is because your bass notes are overlapping each other, and the kick, and you might want to try shortening them, because when combined they are interfering with each other.

Trying to put at least a few miliseconds silence in between each can help make it sound faster as well, although it usually sounds really nice to take your whole bass track and move it about -5ms backwards into your kick, which makes the it sort of groovier. Do this in Cubase by selecting the track, and look on the top right and adjust the time by -5. The fact that the bass's filter envelope will be open while it's a bit in the tail end of the kick should help keep it defined.

I actually recommend offsetting just about any track in different directions from each other so everything is not so stiff.

In my opinion that is also not really a great bass patch, it's not a good note to use with that particular kick, I find it a bit too high pitched, and probably out of tune.

You might like to look for one where the filter envelope makes the sound evolve to be a rounder sounding, cause it's sort of just buzzy.

I hope any of this advice helps you out.

the kick has a snap at its end, a bit shorten should help (or tiny fadeout)

if its already shortened, make it to the original length again!

the bass is way too much subby, missing lots of punch in the midrange...try also even shorter notes

a good trick is to make the bass with lots of high freqs so it gets punchy, and then removing them with trash while keeping the punch

Yeah there is something buzzing at the end of your kick now, do you hear it? Also, I can't even hear any separation between your bass notes at all, most likely cause they have no high frequencies.

To me, it now sounds like a kick with a popping sound at the end, and 3 beats of low hum where the bass is.

I have a feeling it sounds different to you than it does to me, because you either have subwoofer, or you have it hooked up to an amp with 'bass boost' on or something.

If so, turn all that stuff off, and try to get a flat sound coming out of your speakers.

Did you try that track delay of -5ms?

Find out if the popping sound on your kick was caused by doing that, and if so, undo it for now

Thx m8s..i tried al your tips and now it works way better..i actualy got a subwoofer but use it just for fun while listening to music..not for producing..yer..the lenght of the notes is very important for the bass..thx for that..

and yer, that trick with the -5ms is pretty cool...even on other sounds..nice one!!
