Ok ppl,.,
seems that everyone is looking for kicks.
so i'm starting this little project.,
I've set up a FTP server.,
212.238.247.196 port 21
user: kick
password: project
-IMPORTANT- :here are the rules:
You will upload at least one (1) self-made kick.
Don't sample kicks, make one yourself.
This is very important because you could get me into trouble if you sample from copyrighted material.,
If i recognise something as sampled (even from your own work) then i will not give you your account (i will also not put your kick up for downloading)
any means of making a kick are alowed as long as it has some musical value
but i would suggest trance/psychadelic kicks 
by uploading a sample you basically make it public domain (you agree that others may use it in their music without any form of compensation).
you will upload this to a folder/directory with your name so that i know who uploaded what.
then you will send an e-mail to:
kicks4all at yahoo dot com
(i'm a bit paranoid about bots yanking mailaddresses so just replace the 'at' and 'dot' by the real characters)
in this email you will tell me what you uploaded and what accountname / password you would like.
i will check the email about once a day, sometimes more often, sometimes less.
then i will make that account and reply to your mail to tell you that it's set up.,
then you can log in under your own account to the ftp server and download all the kicks that were uploaded .,
i will propably keep this project going for a few months., but i'm not planning to keep it up forever.,
also, if it gets realy out of hand (hundreds of requests a week) i will announce that i will stop and actually will stop providing this service.. (but i'm sure you ppl understand )
so no need to rush but don't sit still,.
anyone interested?., the FTP is waiting!

ooh, and i will make some of my kicks available so after you upload one kick you will already get around 45 new kicks., !!!
and of course i'll be glad to hear any comments or suggestions.,

hi, i just saw you log in.,
basically, there are two direcories,
one is called downloads
here you will find the archive.
but you will need an account to download.
the other one is called uploads .
here you can upload with the 'kick' account.
so you should first go to the uploads directory before you can upload.,

what computer do you have?
for mac i don't know any free ftp clients (you call those programs clients)
for pc there are numerous clients but most of them have a terrible user interface.,
you might want to try 'cute ftp' . it's a simple program and does a good job.,

Nice idea! I'll be uploading some kixxx soon hehe 
What about other kind of samples ? snares-hihats etc ? Have you thought about adding those in the project too?
Moreover how does it work?If i upload a kick then i get some kind of credit and i can download just one sample or as many as i want?

hia.,
right now the plan is to do kicks only.,
MAYBE i will change this and include other samples.,
but the point is that i want to see how this goes first.,
it would be a lot of upkeep to do this for all kinds of samples,
i'd raher make music than make ftp accounts
ooh, and if you upload one you will get access to all other uploaded kicks.,
(actually, i might increase the required uploads to two since i guess anyone can make two kick-like sounds and it adds to the collection)
the plan is that everyone will have a very big collection of different trance kicks so that ppl will have a good choice when they start a track.,
so, upload as many as you like.,

Cheers man, great idea. Unfortunately i don't have any kick drums that i made myself, only samples i gathered from various people. Can't i download some of them?
BTW, you can't get sued by sharing sampled kick drum from a tune. A single kick drum is copyright free.

i didnt know you can rip drums
but there is another reason i decided this.,
i want to make sure that all kicks are as original as possible,
basically i want to avoid double sounds.,
i think that will save time and will make the archive much more original and usefull (because of the variation)
but i will think about it.,
maybe i'll set up another server just for sampled kicks., a different archive, .,.
in the mean time, grab a synth or a microphone or so and make a short low dynamic thingie and upload it !!
