kick envelope query

so i generally enable envelopes on the kick .. kill attack and release , sustain at full ..does this ensure that the sample is not playing the tail ? using fl 7 and the fl sampler btw .. if thats relevant ..

Well yeah the idea is to mute the tail end so it does not interfere with the beginning of the first bassline note, in the same way that sidechaining is there to make sure the bassline doesn't overlap with the kickdrum.
The settings you use are going to depend on how long your kick is and how soon the first bass note comes.

hi meta , yup thats the idea .. the notes never overlap .. so the tail then in theory cant be more than the length of the noted drawn right ? or it still plays ? .. pls confirm

I usually set the attack at zero, the sustain at full but the release at slighlty more than zero to avoid any clicking at the end of the notes.
Like this the kick is just _slightly_ longer than the notes. (Assuming the kick sample is actually longer than the notes of course).

it depends the kick and bassline,i usually do like UnderTow said but sometimes add some decay and less sustain and i mute the tail so it don t interfer with the next kick , i like them long ! 1/8 to 1/4 |
