well said - bpm and kick itself matters.

but what matters the most is the overal sound afterall - so it might be really important how the kick mixes with the bassline in the end.

...it must be possible to get the same pump-effect like @ the basslines, but how...but doesn t matter ppl, i ll try and try...i was just wondering what u ppl here uses 4 settings...

trip and mike: i think that a kick comes much better if you compress it A LITTLE, for shure it can be very easy to much, but a little pre-compression couldn t be worst ;-)=

it's better to compress the track afterwards and not just parts of it, like the kick drum... (IMHO)
or an even better way for me is to divide the track to low mid and high frequencies and compress them seperately (doesn't always give the best result...)
as for the settings, they are different every time... and sometime change during the track...

i compress the bassline and kick together. the combined sound is what i try to go for in basslines. and for the infected track, there is a wonderful little tutorial on their website, for making the infected kicks through sound forge. i would provide a link, but i'm sure some kind soul after me will provide the legwork

Compression on the BD post-EQ. Then adjust the EQ and Compressor settings for the right sound. Both BD and Bassline get compressed in a group. Most of the time this is my strategy.

...hmm...

do u ppl don t think that a compressor shouldn t be used as an bus-effect (...or have i missunderstod something in case of the BD and BLine combo ) ?
---> u "bounce" BD and BLine and take them as a wav and then compress it or what ?

...happy tracking ;-)=

I don't think mastring effects should ever sit on a BUS send - it's something u should group so much - and it should affect the sound directly.

I just compress everything, not one channel at a time.

but if you do this, it can be hard not to have a jump in volume of eg the bassline when the kick drops out (if it ever drops out and leaves the bassline alone)           >>love will tear us apart...<<

thats the way that seems to work best for me,...
eq and compression on the seperate kick and bassline,
then both channels routed to a bus with compressor,...
not via sends, but setting the channel outputs to the bus.

with compressor settings, i like experimenting with extremes,
hehehe - try setting the kick threshold to -60 db!!!
abuse is sometimes better than use
depends what you are trying to achieve tho...
