I'm a bit fed with this typical 1-2-3-4 kick in trance and house. I would love to have tips on cool kick drum patterns for inspiration. What's the typical kick in other electronic styles?

I know, I can check other styles and listen...but I'm lazy ;-)

Try your self other patterns... e.g : 1,3,7,10,15,16
but i m a little bit afraid that if you go for a whole track with a kick not playing 4/4 it will be harder to be danceable... But it is nice for more experimental psy.. (oops.. another "genre" )
have fun! try every idea you have! a lot of things pop ups just from trying things or by mistake and most of all... dont be lazy! (at least when it comes to muzik creation)           +-+talking with ali3ns around the universe+-+

try

k---s--k--k-s---

or

k---s-k---k-s---

and play with those...

faster the speed the less kicks you should use (i think)          roll a joint or STFU :)

as long as u put a snare on every 2nd and 4th count u can do just about anything u want and it will keep the groove, try it, u'll notice for urself every few bars just shift the snare half a count forward or backward, it has immense effect... People latch on to that snare u know, and it's the same in every genre (just listen to DnB or funk or hiphop or ... all breakbeat genres, and all of them have dominant snares on the 2nd and 4th count of every bar, exceptions aside ofcourse)

I remember around 1995-1996, ther were some tunes that had a 4/4 kick, but the bass had a 3/4 signature filling the space triggerring 3 legato notes between each kick. I know you ain't changing the kick, but the feel of the tune changes a lot. Sort of solid marching vibe.
Quite nice if I might add.

Well, this is what I do for years. There are good things that comes out by trial and error....but it's time consuming. And I don't think you have to reinvent the wheel by yourself again and again, right? Cool tips from others can give you lot's of inspiration for your own creation.

Check out some breakbeat tunes from the likes of Plump DJs, Elite Force, Meat Katie, Soul Of Man, Infusion, Stanton Warriors, PMT/False Prophet, General Midi...4/4 signature but more interesting kick patterns than simply a kick on every beat.

it's less complicated than that. u set your pattern to 12's instead of classic 16's and you do this

That's the one (I think). My limited music theory is a bit rusty. It's 3 /12th notes if one is falling on top of the kick, or the pattern you suggested if there is no note layered on top of the kick, but thinking about it, you appear to be correct piko.           Me>You

Four carry nuts - New breed is one of my favorites that uses this bass. i have use it too for a whole track and in my latest for a few seconds... It has nice feeling (like going backwards.. heh)
To InnerAlchemy.. i agree with what u said.. of course you dont have to reinvent the wheel (although some times is fun) and the exchange of ideas/experience is something that i "thumb up". In the same post i gave you an example of a kick pattern (beside 4/4) and just said that you must try such patterns by yourself to see how it goes or to achive something you like... dont get "ungry" i m lazy too sometimes... Can somebody explain what goes on Hallucinogen's Jiggle of the sphinx tune? For some time it sounds like 3/4 and than it shifts to 4/4. I just can't understand...
Anybody knows?           Everyone in the world is doing something without me
