i have discovered, that in most sound libraries the kickdrum samples are stereo. More, left and right channel differ. Why?
|
|
Any ideas on that?

^ All I can come up with is either the person who created the samples has no idea what they're doing, or they didn't intend to create raw samples and ran them through stereo fx. Even if you use the mono sum of a stereo sample you still get nasty phase cancellation, and there's no point (imo) in creating stereo samples when any stereo imaging and processing can be done by the producer later on.

yeah i know this from the vengeance sample pack...i also don't understand why they do such heavy stereo processing.
would be ok to give processed and unprocessed version though...
many samples would be really great but i won't use them because in mono they sound totally shit and i prefer to to the stereo imaging myself on a sample... |

How can you tell if your samples are in mono or stereo?

There are numerous other ways, but since I know you're using Live: If you drag and drop the file onto an audio track in Live, you'll be able to see the two separate channels if it's stereo. If there's only one channel then it's mono.

Just checked it out Medea, you're right, they are in stereo. While this makes sense for percussion in general I presume they made everything in stereo, given the fact that one always can easily render from stereo to mono, but not so easy from mono to stereo.
Ascension, right click your wav, go to properties and then click on the summary tab, that'll tell you all you need to know about your sound file.

They're talking about true stereo samples, and there's no difference sonically, but a dual mono file will be bigger than a mono file when referring to the same sample.

Try this: Otium FX Basslane javascript:OpenSite('www.otiumfx.com')
It make low freqs mono and keep other frequencies in stereo
