hy guys a have a question, if i use a kick sample and i just drag and drop it in cubase on an audio channel, and i want to make a (k+bbb) rythm, my kik is just longer...so its not over when the first bass trike should come...if i cut it then the last end is missing and chanced the kick..is there any way to tighten the kik that its not as long as before???

use your ears, its not always a problem even when the graphics tell differently
do not cut, fade instead, it can happen that a kick is just too long, then take other one or lower bpm if you insist on using that kick. insert this plugin to check the waveforms collision http://bram.smartelectronix.com/plugins.php?id=4 (but again its more abt how its sounds then how it looks)

It depends on which kick you're using. House kicks are longer than trance kicks due to the BPM's being slower. Check out Bazzism plugin. Nice short analog psy kicks can be created with it.
I use Ableton 9- where you can use your fade outs on the sample to levelize the end of the kick's waveform. Nice trick after that is you can route/send your kick and bass channel to an audio channel, do a short recording and check if the waveforms interfere with one another. Also check that the bassline tail aint too long. If so, shorten that decay...
You can then group K&B and check if the volume level of the group stays the same as the individual channels. If the k&B are both at -12db and the group is also,,, then you know that there is no interference.
Cheers

cut accordingly, fade out. agree though that depending on the source youŽd better forget about it... i.e. if you need to cut proper and realize decreasing/lacking lowend, theres no sense to make the cut. cause you have to process again to give back that missing lowend, resulting in increasing decay, which again would clash the first note of the bass.
so yeah, might be easier making from scratch, tuning accordingly, shape like you need, dip here n there, making it fit.
nothing new added, except some own creamy mustard
cheers

in an Audio editor like Edison..or Audacity etc...import the kick and apply a volume suitable envelope. You can also do this using a sampler to load the kick sample. You have to find a way to have the appropriate length and also have low end.
Analyze some kicks from Pro tracks in an oscilloscope
or Audio editor to see how the kick is made to fit with the bass.
HIgher BPM tracks like darkpsy need more attention than progressive. |

+1
I like this advice, though, don't most DAW's have a simple yet advanced sample editor themselves?
Personally i'd absolutely just bounce the sound inside my DAW and tweak it from the sample editor!
Eventually, analyze things with the S(m)exoscope plugin?

another option would be to cut the sub of the first bass note and leave the kick intact. |
