As we all know, a kick is sometimes beyond pitch-bending a sine wave. Let's take for example Psycraft's "Top Gun", "Nothing But Music", or, Astrix's "Monster remix", "Artcore". The kick in these tracks has more to it than a simple sine wave. It has a character, something that is a bit beyond simple synthesis. Kicks like that, BTW, are very popular, and you can hear that they are not a generated simple wave that has been bended.
Those kicks have some .. 'dirt' on them, you guys know what i mean. How can i have a character like this for my kicks? Should i look somewhere for some specific sample?
I suspect it's maybe a regular kick with an acoustic, regular, bass drum layered on it. What do you say? |

can some one provide a tutorial on how to synthesize a 'Pro' sounding kick + what processing should be done...
one thats not as complex as the SOS link above....
there is definately more than just creating a sine wave kick in sound forge ....
the free samples available on the net are not that great ...
Iv been searching all over for a solution ...
even tried stealing kicks from other tracks (not a good option)
please help
P.S the new search function is terrible |

One could way to power up your kick is to not only put a compressor on it, but also put an oscillating filter with the shift turned all the way down on it. |

as always, there is no simple way to do it... (well it depends on what you consider simple)
as an option to sampled kicks and synthetising your own, try a vst like attack from waldorf and play with the presets until you get what you want
btw, in the attack manual there's a simpler way to make a tr909 kick, just the sine and a impulse (a pwded square wave) without the low filteres noize...
just download the pdf from one of the (now defunct) waldorf mirrors
  roll a joint or STFU :) |

you can also synthesize several kicks and use the attack (click) of one, and the low sine of another by layering and tweaking them in a sampler. Export the result as an audio file and hey presto: a new kick is born, ready to rumble. |

i would use sampled real drums, and process them with EQ and compression... They will automatically sound dirtier... And you can add just as much punch as a synthesized kick with the EQ-Comp combination. |

I go with Fregle, eq (REQ6,Q8) and compression (C4 with bass) and i would add some adjustements in length according to your bass.
