The C1sc keeps the subs in check a bit, and I use it again in mastering to even things up just a little more. I don't double-up the compounder in mastering though - not on my own tracks, although I use it on client's stuff. With the bass expander on the Compounder it really is about using just a little - it's SO easy to overcook!           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

i use sidechain compression too but don t compress the kick bass bus, i compress it later with other sounds of the beat , about the setting it all depends what you want to do, if you use sidechain i guess you dont need to add some groove so a very fast attack and short realese might do the trick to glue and get more db but it really depends the sounds... try less than 2 ms attack(where it sound good ) and around 25 ms release and see if it s the effect your looking for(set the tracks levels carrefuly and adjust them while compressing ,cause for exemple if the kick is too loud , the compressor ll work on it too much and you re gonna think it sound better but it ll just have corrected the mixing mistake and make things sound worst than just adjusting the levels on the tracks fader )

i find it more logical to compress the bassline alone and compress the drum bus with or without the bassline .

i like that techniaue tried it out, and i gotta say it works pretty good where the subs are concernd , its that eq cut on the C1 sc that makes it, then i but another comp on to then balance the subs not the compounder but that grancomp, pretty good

Can someone explain to me why you would want to do compress both the kick and bass on a bus rather than individually?

Or even compress them at all?

I've heard it glues them together better, makes the combination more consistent.

not exactly compression, but throw FerricTDS on the kick/bass group and tell me it doesn't sound fantastic

you can use r-bass if you want a similar bass boost ,use it in the lowest settings (if my memorie is good lowest is -24 ,around this it s fine just to add some weight to the sound )
