ever wondered,
what would a track be like without a kick,
is it possible,
or wouldnt it work,
any opinions.
apart from giving the track a bassline, wat else does the kick do? i dont feel it very necessary!

the base line is very importan i feel in the track... it gives totally a new direction and energy to the track.......

Kick make default ticks each time it hits, so it make possible for DJ to mix, for artist to create other groove elements. I think kick is good idea to keep in track if you want to make psytrance of course. Else it would be called theme, atmosphere or noise. Sometimes it's is nice, thou won't be dancable too much. |

go liisten some old goa 98-99, the kick was much less "tick" than most actual songs much more bassy, that also is what makes it harder to mix then new songs i think

Some timesits funny when this happens. sometimes when the cable is somekind broken it might lose the kick and bass complitly from the track but still playing the rest very well. of course i meen this happens usualy in car stereos and stuff like that, never saw it happen in my computer.
wicked. did this happen already with someone?

Well i think you could get all tribalistic without a kick and get the song dancing  So to speak. There is trance music without a kick.... but those ppl live in the jungle for the past 10000 years... Maybe we could bring the kick to them

well... conventional dance music is based on 4/4 rythm.... what we call a kick many others outside the genre call "bass drum" having a track without a bass drum or kick is like creating a human without a spine.

But otherwise some great chilled tracks dont have a beat either..

Tribal still have BD or native percussion. Even bass can be used as drum for tribal, the main idea in tribal is hypnotic drumming. |

Hehe. I know what you mean Hippy. But imagine if producers put a snare instead of a kick. That's gonna hurt your brain because SNARES are SHARP and they KILL.

yeap in my friend's car. fucked up cables! hehe. Also i had this experience only in car..
Anyway for the topic, i had this conversation with some friends a while ago. to make a track without a kick and a track without a bass. We havent done it yet cause everytime we say.. "oh next time.." now lets rock! hehe.. But sure with no kick it would be psytrance anymore. (expect if you replace the kick with something else to give you the 4/4). But its nice as experiment..
