I Think Its A good rule To Set Your Kick Output db Level To -10db At The Start Of Any Track , The Kick Is The Backbone Of ur Track And All ur Sounds Are Mixed Around It , And -10db Leaves Enough Headroom To Mix ur Sounds . At Least Thats What i know ! Hope That Helped Mate

Despite what many will say, there are no rules here. however, the kick and bass should go great together, so you don't want too much of dynamics variations (must have somewhat equal power..)

The kick and bass are just elements, that form the Beat. The beat should sound nice no matter what the kick and bass values are, and depending on the effect you want you can set you K and B as you please.

Naturally, the beat has the bass rumbling and rolling, with a kick on the 4 by 4 marker, effectively setting the tempo, so normally the kick is a bit louder than the bass so it's audible. If you just mix the kick and bass together, you have to adjust them so they sound good together, without overpowering each other; however if you use a compressor / expander to help glue the mix, then you can be more drastic with the K and B volumes (as the compressor / expander will lover the kick / raise the bass so it's equal power).

Dont forget to leave headroom, so there's always space to raise a sound a bit more - specially in your master channel. For that, the Beat being somewhere bellow -6db should work, but if you left headroom and the mix is good, than you can boost the volume in the mastering phase and equalize all your tunes to whatever standard value you please.

just keep an eye on the master & the more sounds & fuller the mix the lower tha faders. My output is always at zero, when its red it's time to go back to the mix, maybe lower some channels, maybe all channels or work on some low frequencies seperation, maybe sidechain or sth else that can change outputs red colour into green. Relation to bass is a question for psy experts. I like bass a bit louder than kick , but kick must come through anyways.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

well -2db on bass means that kick is around there also.. that means that the rest of the sounds dont have much space to breath in the mix and you will end up lowering your master channel alot before the final bounce to be acceptable for mastering.

a base of -10db for kick and bass should be ok.
relation between kick and bass isnt an absolute number it can be few db higher or lower.. usually when sounds good its good.          http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

I think makus means it is a 2 db lower in volume than the kick.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

well i agree with orange ! you can put the -2.0 for kick and bass !? but yeah nice but the rest of the sounds getting hard to manage ! what i do i break the rules i put my master on -4.2 db , Low ? yeah but it gives you room for the other sounds what you put in ! At the end you fix it in your master to put a limiter in and boost it like you want ( no clipping !!! ) so yeah there are rules but to be organizing your sound in the mix i like this method

i have to disagree with this, this can be a bad habit to get into which i used to do as well, instead find better to keep the master always at 0, so dont need to worry about ever touching it or adding any kind of limiter, think limiting/mix buss compression should b left for the mastering engineer. Instead good habit to get into is setting all channels way down like -15, and start mixing there so u have a lot of headroom to mix, and at the end will end up peaking on the master around -6db which is recommended for mastering, regarding kick and bass best no set rules, they should be similar in levels but depending on the kick n bass sound and the track one could be louder than the other when it sounds right its right
