Hey just wondering if anyone knows of any good software for learning the keyboard? Google shows up a bit but i'd rather use something recommended. On an old thread on psynews ppl were just saying get a real teaching, but I know really good software exists because i used a program in high school (about a decade ago) and got relatively good in only 6 months - I can't remember what it's called though unfortunately. Sadly i stopped playing.. didn't realise how useful it'd be for electronic music! |

You can always pick-up a book
i personaly like books better, or there's this poster that comes with lots of chords n stuff, maybe it be a good idea to buy that sucker and hang up in ur wall... lil by lil you'll start learning, n u can always look at the walls when u forgot hehe, i think you can at least start off like that, thats what i did, like that u can concentrate more on the music, and everday u can learn 2-3 chords lil by lil big things get done!!!
chords are like shades of colors, once you know ur main colors you'll start learning the shades, cus to me thats what they are cheers, n if u like some book names let me know |

Depends what you want to learn. If you want to learn scales and chords, get a book, practice them every day.
If you want to learn sight reading and some simple piceces (with very little theory) you could try
Voyetra - Teach me Piano
There are a few other midi based keyboard/piano programs that cover various aspects of playing and theory.
But you can't beat a real teacher for technique and keeping you motivated.
Being good at any of it requires a lot of dedication and practice. I still take exams and have lessons weekly. I had an exam on Saturday in fact, which I totally screwed up! Sitting in front of an examiner playing is one of the most nerve wrecking things you can ever do.

Yea, that's something i hadn't thought of actually. Doing exams would definitely be good practice for playing live, which is when you really don't want to make a mistake . |
