I know this might sound stupid to some, but I'm still learning. When a track is said to be made in 11A, 5B, 2A etc.. what does the "11, 5, and 2" stand for? I'm pretty sure the letters A and B are the keys there mixed in... |

I've never heard it put that way. If the letters are the keys that they're in, the numbers don't really matter..they would just be there to state which octave, which is totally irrelevant in that context.
  You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me? |

If you check any mixing software that detects a tracks key and bpm, they all tell you the number such as 11A. How could a track be made in the 11th octave? Doesn't sound right to me... |

there you go
and you should mix only from 4A only to 5A 3A or 4B. if you got it on 8B then mix only to 8A , or 7B or 9B. thats harmonic mixing chart , i reken working very nice. only mix into tracks with the keys next to the one playing , mix from 6A to 11B would sound not most harmonic , but sure sometimes there are other stuff to concider so all is possible! other things will be general vibe , bpm , intensity of the song etc.
8A and 8B will use the same notes anyhow , just called diffrent and have diffrent 'start' position.
yet all programs recognize all my (100+)tracks only as (A) scales , wich is not true but could looked upon that way i supose. so its still working great. www.sattelbattle.com

Just to clear things up, according to this table (thanks Elad), A represents 12 minor chords of the octave, and B represents the other 12 relative major ones.
I never saw this table before, nor have I saw anyone write these figures next to tracks they made.
I don't see a reason to divide the chords into this chart... C major is relative to A minor and vice versa, multiply by 12 and there you go.

I think its just the circle of fifths. I did try out the program that analysis your songs but I found it inaccurate. |

oh shit that's right ;/
Then I don't see why A flat minor was given the number 1...

Hi bro, i didnt get what you mean by mixin from key 4A to key 5A or 4B in example.
What you are saying are mixing one melody with another?

like some said its the circle of fifth , read about it on wikipedia.
it meens that it mixing only tracks that are harmonicly match , like Aminor to Cmagor (that use actualy the same notes).
this ensure smooth mixing. but again its just helper an not rule.
