This reminds me of a part of a track where the bass plays its solo

bassline is too loud and i would add more filter decay with maybe less flt env amount, just to make it more open and long and fat.

all leads are very thin and very quite.

percs are too hipassed, thin and overprocessed.

remove all eq on them, i bet it would sound much more natural and open.

i've checked in headphones and yes it sounds a bit better there.

I have been mixing on earplugs for two and a half year!!

I sometimes check the sound and compare it to others, And usually i can't figure what's wrong.

Well, you already figured out what's wrong.
Cans work great for higher frequencies (if they're good) , but suck at lower frequencies. The only headphones you might get away with are the Sennheiser 700HD. But even those will not be very accurate.
To get the lower frequencies right and to know at what fundamental the bass begins to have a lot of low end pressure, you need monitors... and maybe even a subwoofer...
Monitors will enable you to get the spl right in the different frequencies a lot easier...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

yeah, at least 8". or 10. but from my experience 12 is superb

hearing what happens at 25-30 hz and to actually hear changes made with 10 Hz high pass filter brings the new meaning to the low end for me.

without such low end monitoring i couldn't properly separate kick subs from bass subs. making music since 1998 i understood this only in 2012. lol.

Hi, What speakers + sub combo do you have? I was looking into buying a sub (bm9s) for my dynaudio bm6a's after hearing a pair of barefoot mm35's at the store. My room is treated but I understand that frequencies under 500 hz you need at least minimum 100mm thick wave panels/absorbers and that adding a sub could actually do more harm that good if your room does not accommodate for the sub bass frequencies. My room is treated with bass traps and wave panels and it is really great for the speakers i have but a sub could destroy the sound in my room i believe. My speakers reproduce bass down to around 41hz which I find very Tight and accurate and afraid adding a sub may make the bass more flabby/boomy and i will lose the tight bottom end i am so used to. I know it is probably more fun to work with a sub with but like I said it may add boom in the wrong room and make me work harder for a more accurate translation. What do you guys think?           http://soundcloud.com/multiv3rse

Are you satisfied with the low end in your mixes? do they translate well?

yes to both.
I was happily content but after listening to the barefoot's i kinda got carried away and wanted a full range system.           http://soundcloud.com/multiv3rse

you can always switch it off ,a sub won t make your mix worst but if it s well integrated and the room is ok it will show you extra informations on the low end, dynamic and balance of the mix.
with a good sub the low is tight and clean ,it feel like the mains are extended you forget there is a sub it also not only enhance the lowend, but the 50/100 hz region depending where you set the crossover.
(where there is the fondamtentals of the kick and bass , a 12 inches woofer have avantage over 6 or 8 ones ,it don't feel stressed and like the monitor struggle to deliver accurate sound there )
but it s like building your own full range , buying a well designed full range can be a better solution but cost way more

Ok thanks, that is more of what i wanted to know, how it stacks up against an integrated sub/full range setup.
If not as convincing i will happily move on because there is no way of taking a listening test before i buy - i can only purchase and hope it integrates well enough.

thanks for satisfying my curiosity.

cheers.

yeah that the problem wihtout trying, you can t know if it will work well in your room...but it can always show you some extra information for better mix but it might make it expensive for not much

Adams A7X and an old but very good m-audio 12 inch sub (yes, it is m audio and it is good...)

and do not be afraid of the very low end, I very much love it and try to have as much as possible in there without making the speakers flab.....

Cool, i will try and find somewhere where i can demo a sub and check if the crossover/transients are convincing enough before i spend around $1-1.2k on it.
thanks for your opinions!           http://soundcloud.com/multiv3rse
