Hi klippel, thanks for the info. Makes perfect sense what you said, since my ears were telling me the bass was not at the right spot. I tried to move it but I think I didnt try enough. Gonna try this today when I get home, see you. |

I also gave it a try yesterday night/today after I noticed in some tracks the that the bassnotes have to be very long in order to leave no space, a fluent floating;)
So took a kick sample and used 1/4 notes so whole sample nothing cut
then first midi track with sylent, 1/8 notes from the offbeat position that it ends when the next kick starts
just a saw and triangle for the low end
amp: no attack no decay just sustain and little release so that there is no clipping
apply mod env linked to cutoff with about 4/5 (from 10) decay, a little less sustain and release for taste
then a second track, saw waves again but this time settings for crunchy mids, so amp stays the same and mod env after taste but of course plucky, and then a eq to cut some low end
also a send reverb on the track with the mids
and the ableton's vinyl distortion
then track delay (ableton, dunno but I guess others DAWs have similar options) to find some nice place, applied the groove of some midi patterns I found on the internet (mpc groove e.g) and a little velocity based volume control for some more groove ( I could also move the notes myself a little bit more but it was fine with track delay)
and finally both bass tracks sidechained to the kick
If my room is not fooling me it's pretty floating, even my headphones reproduce it very well still sounds a little different but definitly not so different than usual
ps: Pom is right bass and kick have to be in tune so that they can float even better |

nice post Fakso mind posting your results?
BTW, you don't need to have a second track to do this - you might enjoy Grouping the first sylenth + all its audio effects into an Instrument Rack then creating a new chain - and then put your second sylenth and all its effects in that second chain.
The only issue with this is that you couldn't use the sends to individually apply reverb to the mids. However, you can get the same exact effect using Racks again.
Take the reverb from your send and copy it. now go to your midbass chain and paste that reverb into the chain where you want it applied. Now group that reverb into an audio effect rack and add a new channel to it. So now you have your reverb on one chain and the un-verb'd sound on the other chain. Mix the volume of the reverb chain to taste the same way you would mix the send/return amount on the midbass track.
So now instead of having 2 bass channels and a reverb send to deal with you have one bass channel with everything inside of it. This makes resampling, compressing/processing everything together much much easier If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Here, but I just saw that I did not eq the low end track, I just did with my headphones as I can not turn on my monitors now... can sound pretty different now
I also cleaned my room and removed things from the wall like bookshelfs in order to treat my room in the next weeks...so there could be some problem with reflections and the bass sounds shorter on my hp already, nevertheless this can be fixed with adjustment of the env I would guess

I advise download as the player is just 64 or 128 kbs mp3 quality , at least sounds like |

Nice to hear that it's sounding well
Yes the rack thing is quite a nice idea but I think I can just group the 2 tracks and still just apply the send reverb to a track in the group
For compression I route my drum tracks together with the bass on one channel where I apply the comp. I think it's called parallel compression(?), at least it becomes nicely consistent |

it's bus/group compression , parallel is when you use some dry/wet signal .
sound good man, but i think your kick is a bit too light to drive /answer more to the bass maybe, at least in my cans, after it might be taste ... |

maybe these dense kicks would work... was not made for this , more for hard techno..but would be curious if it can do the trick..with a envelop/fade for shaping ( might be too long like this )and maybe with a hats layered if it s too dark sounding
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5107801/DRIVED%20KICKS.zip
if you give it a try let me know if it can work

Nice thread..
IMO the kick envelope is very important in the processs
which is also a reason why is easier to me create an effective bassline/combo with synthesized kicks instead of samples, finding a good tone for the bass may help, but the real challenge is to blend it well with kick low end...
this is exacly when it comes the importance about kick envelope, because the low end will create a sort of impact in the first bass note...
having the kick and bass chained into a singular channel compression may also help the combo process...
i use 4 chanels for the kick & Bass
1 channel kick processing
2 bass channels, 1 normal bass processing, and otherone with a small trick like parallel compression wich basicly i increase stereo image on higher frequencies
the 4th and exit channel from my combo is for compression and other filtering or timing fx...
i really only started to get better results and be completly happy with my tracks since i started to routing the stuff like i mentioned.
cheers

with samples tuning it in a sampler should do the trick if it s not far from the desired pitch, but not optimal yes..i would go for synthezing too if possible..
happened i used KbK to tune my kick bass and then do the kbbb as sometimes it may be somehwat easier to find the sweet spot when synthetizing the kick
ricardo i was lisetning some of your tunes.. really nice color i like the low mid density /ticknesss sound kinda moogish.. the cluster flux color the sound a bit the same |
