Hey guys, I'm using minitaur to make psy baselines. If I want to make a usual KBBB or KBB I can quickly get to something nice (besides mixing, which is a matter of taste and takes a while). Analysing the waveforms from Ace Ventura, Zen Mechanics and several others I enjoy listening I see that I get very close and I am satisfied with the results. But this is not true for KB basslines. Fabio, Neelix, Interective Noise and alikes are so distant from my results and I basicaly dont understand why. It seems like its out of tune, though I checked in melodyne and both kick and base are on G. Also, it seems as the bass does not sync with the kick, no matter what I do, EQ, compressor with sidechain, ducking with gate..... So, I would like to know if you also experience this kind of problems and if you have any workarounds.
See you

I too am trying to get a good prog trance K&B combo.Ace Ventura uses the synth that comes with logic I think. I would keep the patch simple for the bass, sawwave 1 voice etc
not heard of the minitaur. I just use the cronox2 and ultrabass for bass. The cronox is very popular still, good for prog and fullon alike. an example of Ace Ventura bass here Killik
I'm not a million miles off,WIP below, using G sonique ultrabass for the bass on this

Neelix his basses are usually layered. Which means it is not just one sound. But a few. Each sound has its own space in the frequency spectrum. On the mid or higher part there is often a bitcrusher of some sort.

certain decimate disto settings in sylenth also recreate this effect very good
I guess what's meant here is the flowing between kick and bass I also struggle with that as my kb basses don't sound so super groovy but more choppy, maybe something about right sidechain?
also maybe a longer decay in the plucked sound when offbeat basses?

your track wouldnt even at 142 have the same groove feeling and thats becuase your tune its bad mixed in terms of dynamics...your bass also dont sound at all close to the track mentioned...
if you think so.. then you are not listening right... eiter on phones or monitors, something wrong in your place.
the plugin you used its also way too digitals sounding... to make thing you want
to give the punch you would need to emulate a pro psytrance bassline, with that plugin will be a lot dificult, you would need to process a lot fx like add saturation and EQ into a certain point that would turn the sound more "analogish"
and honestly for me thouse G-sonique plugin sound like shit, tipical propaganda that sells the idea for noobs that with that plugin you easly make a "pro-bassline"
SIMPLY NOT TRUE... and thats why most of people this days think their bass its allready similar in terms of sounding...
but its NOT just about sounding, its actualy more important the Dynamic range where it plays, which its the true dificulty about making stuff sound pumpy and agressive, because its need proper room, nice material and experience to do it...
otherwise your just fooling your self
but, dont be mad, this is just my 5 cents, you can still keep thinking your bass its ok.

Hey that was a useful post. Not.
You betray your own ignorance by trying to use terms like 'analogish' and capitalizing Dynamic.
Writing stupid things like 'dont be mad you can still keep thinking your bass its ok' just makes you look like an ass and it doesn't help anyone.
Try actually helping and suggesting something useful next time instead of being a douchebag.

Like i said...
only throwed my 5 cents...
there´s no need to call me ignorant or douchbag
i told the dude the plugin wasnt proper, he wasnt listening right, and he need to work dynamics
if that isnt usefull, then my bad, but still... only my 5 cents

Ultrabass is a great plugin, it just needs some post processing. It has a bunch of nice presets and you just need to play with the velocity and decay to get a nice rolling sound out of it.
Kick Muck's example does sound a bit plastic-y so if you're striving for the Ace Ventura vibe you need to do a total rework on the bass, the whole tempo is different depending on how you use those few notes you have.

Ignore Ricciardo's comment.
What is most important with kick and bass is to get it right from the start.
Create a kick that you really really like. Don't settle for decent. But make sure it is good!
Then continue with the bass. Make sure it isnt too long or too short. Too long makes it muddy. Too short makes it thin.
Play with velocity of the notes to give it groove. You can also make sure the notes start a little before or after the grid. So it is not exactly on time. A funk player also is never really on time. He plays around the grid (tight timing)to make the funk!

@Ricciardo , If you notice the track I linked is A WIP, that means it's way off finished. And where did I say I was a brilliant producer or talked about dynamics/mixing.
You say my efforts are shit, well link your work so we can all hear it!!

never said such thing...
you written you were not a million miles off, using a certain plugin comparing your sound with ace ventura...
then i simply told you that you were far than you think...
and even left you a couple more advices
but you didnt enjoyed, because i destroyed your ilusion, you came here all confident of your self, "i am almost as good as ace ventura thing... ear my stuff" then someone tell you a truth..
and you get mad
and now you even wanting me to link my my "stuff" here...
"ah do you make it better than me thing?"
again... you sound very confindent of your self, but you need to improve a lot (thats the truth), ear the stuff you do more properly before assume your close to anything
