About the EQ com'on look at the Eq in reason, it is really small, you can barely hear any difference when you tweak the parameters. Compare that with the waves Eq in Logic... If reason was that good more big bands would be using it, but when you read interviews bands always work with cubase or logic, and there must be a reason for that don't you think??
By the way have you ever used logic or cubase and compared withg reason? If not i suggest you give it a try.. |

Mr. Glue, Cubase is more powerful than Reason will ever be for several reasons:
1. Reasons' developers have no plans to compete with Steinbergs' leading software simply because their developers came from world of Syntesizing (One of their leading programmers worked for Clavia). They have no intentions to include VST support or Audio/Recording tools.

2. You can't put behind Steinberg's expertise that was earned in years in the field of software sequencers. They started in those happy Atari days.
3. The application you are using doesn't make you a pro or semi pro. It's all in your mind. Cosma R.I.P. made his first album on PC only. So as Talamasca, Krumelur and the list goes on.
That's all, i think.

I am not looking in to getting in a big discussion here, which only results in a "fight" on which is better, however i'd like to give you all my opinions:
First of all, Reason is good. But, only as a complement imho. I use Cubase for sequensing, and reason via rewire. I find it very flexible, because i can use VSTi's and effects which i can not use in reason alone. The Eq's in reason is definately nothing to be proud of, it stinks, even cubase's Eq's i am not satisfied with. The best EQ i have used is Filterbank for protools.
Actually i prefer working with protools when it comes to mixing, you have such great overview, and the automation!!!! It's excellent. If the day comes when they implement a vst engine in protools i'd be very happy. That way you could use the flexibility of both platforms, have VSTi's in protools, that would be the bomb.
As i said, reason is avery good complement, and you should not underestemate it's abilitys, but using it alone as a production tool is not recomended.
Ok, this is my cupple of cent's to it all, i hope it brings some light to y'all :-D
Be good!

Don't you think TDM is slightly better than VSTi?
and just to enlarge yer words zimbah - Reason is not a whole production kit program. I know it looks that way - but no.

I think that Reason can be much better than Cubase ,
Logic or ProTools, for those ppl who need software based
groovebox , Reason it's defenetly one of the best tools
for that . From professional point of view Reason it's
the ultimate "real studio emulation" for beginners who
don't know how real studio works and where to start .
Ofcourse it's possible to "make tracks" with it, it just
depends on the way u work . I don't believe that in near
future the big studios who make big money out of music
production will sell out they'r SSL desks, valve units, etc...
and will move to Reason or Fruity because it's possible
to "make tracks" with it. I don't shure how can be
possible to record an artist into Reason . . .
Another point is that if someone works with Reason and
feel comfortable with the results there is no reason
moving to Cubase , defenetly no reason . |

Trip- > Ofcourse TDM is better quality and all, that's one of the reasons i prefer protools. However, implementing VST into protools would be the peak of flexibility imo.

what's better quality in TDM is the hardware that it runs on. |
