I love it this compressor, if you didnt know, its an emulator of an 1980 ssl console-comp. but it stands clearly out over "80comp"-emulations.
I have it on the master-bus before I get creative and produce directly through it while mixing on the go. It gives you very good volume-envelope dynamics, even more often when you smash elements on top of each other. when I turn it off, the whole mix falls apart.
Clearly, I wouldnt be able to reach this kind of great dynamic when I would turn it on at the end of the mixing process. but maybe this is something for the pros?
There are not much plugins, that had such huge impact to my style of working. And the plugin is even realy cheap! as far as i know from kvr, its just one guy with amazing coding-skills. http://www.cytomic.com/glue
anyway it supports high quality oversampling to reduce digital artifacts.

don't know other emulations but quite good the original ssl bus compressor on the console, and this plug in reminds me of this unforgettable power & sound'colour'. Great plug in.

i use the uad ssl bus compressor (which i suppose is the same model the glue replicates?) and also love it to bits.
would you care to share settings you use on the bus when you start mixing into it? never did that actually and would be interested to know more about it
