Yeah man, south africa has a very cool scene. Especially Cape Town, that´s where all the big parties go down. The most popular style is definately full on, but you´ll get some DJs that play progressive or minimal, it depends on the party. ´

If you´re concidering going to SA just for the trance, then DO IT! You definately won´t be dissapointed. The parties might not be as big as they are in europe, but they make up for it in all other aspects, especially the venues and weather.

good luck

I can only talk about cape town because i only live there.

You will find clubs of all types of music in cape town from hard house to drum and bass to your hiphop and rnb etc BLEH BLEH

but trance is mainly fullon stuff like paranomal attack and cpu that type of crazy stuff.

but in general you will find good music in SA trance scene. Plus like gamma_goblin said (who is obviously a GMS fan, sad) hahaha.

SA scene is best for weather, AND THE PEOPLE the people in SA are great, like you can just goto tents and they welcome you can stuff, everyone is generally happy and no bad vibes.

But that is a generalization, in 4 years going to parties there was only 2 incidents where there was conflict and both times was because 1 guy just wanted to cause trouble. but other than that you would never have any problems in SA.

Plus everything so cheap, everything!!

hmmm to me full-on doesnt quite describe it... music here is a bit less full-on and a bit more 'trippy'... which is just right if u ask me
music like shift, artifakt, protoculture and the ole genius rinkadink... even Damage n Broken Toy.. who are really fullon have a serious 'trippy' element to their music...

ps. didnt mean to leave anyone out... all u guys rock!!

LOL @ Gamma!!

And yes I would have to agree with psilocybe, Fullon seems to be the music taste of the masses, maybe more "neo fullon" as they call it.....well funky & trippy yeah!! Well I for one love it, but you can give me any style anyday           :: Life can be as bitter as dragon tears
But whether dragon tears are bitter or sweet
depends entirely on how each man perceives the taste ::

lots of animosity towards.. GMS there Gamma Goblin.. hehe...

calm down, tiger....

I'm not the biggest fan of GMS either... but I respect there production work... you can hear they put a lot of effort into their production...

although...

at the same time.. it doesn't take too much effort to get a midi file and remix somebody else's track ... (the original hallucinogenic gamma goblin madness...) ... it also doesn't take too much effort to get the midi file from a movie and add a beat to it..... and assign a synth...

eish.. maybe i should start remixing other people's music.... i'm sure i'll make a quick buck.
hehe.

          Mind my mind.

GMS used be alright, they have a couple of good songs. I just eventually got bored of that generic style of trance they seem to make.

I´ve heard too much full on in my day to enjoy groups that aren´t original or different in some way.

A lot of full on being released today sounds like it was made BY machines and not with machines.

Quite sad really

hahahaha

this is a really funny topic,.. i was just wondering around SA foruns and boom .. hehe everyone seems to be very friendly around here though...
its good that the trance scene has no problems with 'bad vibe'. in brazil we usually prefer (-)200 people, when it gets bigger it is common to have problems with people not caring about music, just doping and alienating their little minds .. and the worst, they can cause a lot of trouble!!

i bet you guys have some awesome outdoors too.. would like very much to come to SA!

peace & light

breno

ps: i hope there are some nice progressive parties and people dont discuss very much gms!!!!! he he he

keep the trance spirit alive

Breno! Hello
if you ever decide to visit our crazy country come to Joburg. We have awesome progressive dj's and if you really have to some full on parties too hehheh
check out www.redeyeproductions.co.za for some free mp3's Ivan Kennys '5am' is an excellent prog track.
To GMS haters:
GMS used to rock true, the GMS and Amigos Tribal Uiniversity CD (old skool!) was an inspiration to me. There is a wealth of music in that album that the newbies haven't been able to touch yet. GMS are the full on sound (ok maybe not just GMS) everything else is generic. Why should they change? Come on, the youngsters should be making new styles and sounds not the pensioners!
Covers of other psytracks are better than some of the sqwonk out there though! And being able to experience GammaGoblins remixed and mastered was a gift because it's a classic.
As for the whole MIDI file in here MIDi file out...you know thats not even close AbsyDrop
The whole dance scene is pretty lame in regards to respecting what has come before and you can hear it, Gammagoblins still makes my head a bit crazy but I cant say the same thing for alot of new tracks. Thank the force for Panick, Spacemonkey and Prometheus!
Hi-T

I'm for Joberg - really Cape Town is the business for trance parties, during the summer there is at least one everyweeked, and there is a big trance community. Joburg parties are smaller, few and far between and a bit dodgy sometimes ...

Im from Portugal and in my 5 years into trance and off all the sounds I heard, all the parties I attended to,all the festivals i been present, all the reunions i didnt miss... the south african style has been and is my favourite style in this world!
I havent missed ONE sa artist in my country since im into this passion!
The african percussions are so present..such a mix of night sound with full on (in a way),the madness in each track..schyzophrenia might be the exact word..i swirl and swirl! the delight of buying a Timecode Rec. cd..a nexus media..and so on..its so...gratifying..its a unique feeling... there is no other sound to me into the psyscene that compares to this level of production. Its amazing how all the artists are soooooo amazingly good! ehe ...and that is proved by the more and more aceptance of these upcoming artists around the world! I hope you guys enjoy well what you have!
Goa might be a mistical place..to me SA is the meca!
I hope I can go there briefly..just to party..i see these line ups...and im soo blown away..
About the GMS offtopic thingie... i prefered this guys when they were simply... Growling Mad Scientists..not GMS.           The fact that no one understands you doesn't make you an artist:.
