Just one of those nights, I guess.

It started with a friend of mine, that's been late to discover psytrance. I took him to his first party a couple of weeks ago - with Shiva Chandra, which he enjoyed a lot, and then with Pixel&Domestic, which he enjoyed as well. Naturally, he discovered how fun partying outdoors is, and how really awesome psytrance parties are. He also studies at the technion, and just before our tests, we had this one last chance to party.

This week, I had to choose between a few parties - starting with a flyer for a party with D-Tek which I got at the Shiva Chandra party. It seemed like a good bet, since Gula K was also lined up to play, and she always does the job well, and I wanted to give Omi a chance as well. Then, a friend told me that there's a birthday party, which turned out to be a hat party (with the Psychedelic Zion gang). I called my friend, told him the options, and since I wasn't sure I'd have my own car till the last minute, I told him it could go any way he wanted, but I'd prefer the birthday, even though it was much farther away.

Anyways, I did the usual pre-party preperations (get the water, tea, food stuffs and so on), I called some of the people I knew were at the birthday. None answered or were available, so I ended up leaving a message after giving up. In the meantime, we popped the Southpark movie into the DVD (a pre-party ritual of mine), and decided that it was the D-Tek party. Naturally, we called at 2AM, just after everything is packed in the car, ready to be at the place well before three, and then I found out the party was busted.

Well, if I'm all psyched and ready for a party, I don't give up that easily. I had two choices, the Psychotropic Carmel party, or the Bia&Boro party (that ended my knowledge of parties for today). Pixel&Domestic made the choice, and Bia&Boro it was. We got there at three, to hear the generator working, and not much else. Well, we sat, drank some tea, talked to a few guys in the parking lot... It was a really nice time (and I found out I'm not the only one who thinks Tim Schuldt's old stuff was the most powerfull full-on ever), and finally, the music started - the sound system was decent, at best. The dancefloor was on the slope of a mountain, and had rocks all over the place. It makes it hard to loose yourself in the music when you nearly trip over a rock when that happens.

But, I was going to have fun, because the mood was right, and this was my last chance at a psytrance party for the next month and a half at least.

The first DJ (which I really don't know who he was, sorry) started out with some melodic stuff which I usually enjoy (The Antidote - Analog Activity is always great), but while starting with groovy stuff, his mixing was impatient at best, switching tracks in very short mixes after letting them play for five minutes or so. Naturally he ended moving to full-on. After a while, I gave up and sat. Finally, Pixel&Domestic started playing. They reaffirmed themselves as both the most ISRAELI djs, in a good way (the Israeli vibe was defined way before Astrix, thank god... but also the technique was wonderfully NOT trying to sound Scandinavian or German or anything other than Israeli), and as having great taste in music, picking very good dancefloor choices. The crowd was NOT a good one - even though there were quite a few women there, there were times that the music gave me a gigantic smile without thinking, and the moment I looked around, I saw that only me and my friend were smiling, as well as maybe two other people (which one of them was usually the guy with the headphones on). They played some great music, showed that you can give a vibey full-on set that isn't all above 140 bpm, without extra cheese on top, and still make people dance.

When the next DJ started playing, he started with 1200 GASPs (1200 Growling Atomic Safi Projects), and showed absolutely no sign of relenting. The crowd went wild, for the first two tracks. By the third, they found out that it wasn't going to get any better, or change in the least... After Pixel&Domestic, it just sounded, well, tasteless. Something I guessed somewhere around the first note.

I had fun, I won't say I didn't. But I had fun inspite of the amaturish production (except for the deco, which was good, but quite a lot of it was stolen when the music wasn't even playing yet... the deco guys were really cool). Excluding Pixel&Domestic, I'd say the only thing in this party which was positive without me forcing it to be so was that 15 minutes from when I put the keys in the ignition, I could park at home.

Sorry guys, I'm not coming to any of your productions any time soon, even if they're next door to me.
