My friend asked me:
"Imagine, that I have drawn a sound wave on a paper. Then I've scanned it. Is there such program technology which could distinguish a sound wave on a picture and convert it in a sound file for the further processing?"
Any ideas? =)

afaik, there are some synths where you can draw the waveform yourself...so this should be at least there possible!
but cant tell you a name now

In absynth you can draw waveshapes for an oscilator if I remember...

The is a few programs that can convert images into sound.
The one I can remember of the top of my head is metasynth, but that's mac only.
I did try some freeware ones for the PC as well.
But they do not recreate a waveform you have drawn and it's more along the lines of using the y axis of the image as pitch, the x axis as time, brightness as amplitude and colour as panning.
It can generate some nice phasy sounds.
The process also works the other way which also quite cool because the images you use will be possible to see when analysing your track in a spectrograph.

as far as i know this is way different than drwing wave forms I met a guy who actually does something to the file information of a jpeg to make it a wav so depending on what color and other information is in the picture it changes the sound. I agree it would probably sound like noise but noise is good if you tame it ill try to ask more about it from him
but yes it is possible i doubt there is a program for it though

Thanks everybody,
The idea was to take a photo af a fissure on a wall and to make a waveform from it.
The guy who asked me about such software was completely satisfied when he discovered the pencil tool in soundforge)

The pencil tool is more of a crackle remover and something to fix tiny sample errors, and not to actually draw your waves by hand. It's impossible to draw by hand something that will sound better than plain noise and making something of reasonable length is very time consuming, thus making it quite pointless.
