Artist : Johnson & Haske
Title : Teletappert
Label : Flow Vinyl
Format : Digital EP
Release date : dec. 008

Tracklist:
1. Teletappert (original)
2. Teletappert (Duca rmx)

Shortly after their first release on Flow Vinyl, the Hamburg-based duo comprising veteran DJ & producer Mapusa Mapusa, also part of the Auricular & Human Traffic projects and his accomplice Sascha Haske, of Bitmonx & Buzzmonx fame, do it again on the Portuguese label and deliver another two track digital EP. Anyone acquainted with the quality of Pena’s sets and Flow’s label policy will lend an attentive ear to this new release.

1. Teletappert (original)
Teletapert is an hybrid of progressive styles. It straddles Electro, thanks to the pitch shifting bassline, and tech, as can be heard in the synth arrangements. But, even though sometimes the most simple ideas make great tunes, this stripped-back piece with limited build-up is not exactly the kind of succulent morsel you’d hope Santa Claus would serve you for Xmas dinner. Maybe because the bass is too plainly binary, and the synth sample does not evoke much more than a ring tone.

2. Teletappert (Duca rmx)
With a still-fresh artist album at Tribal Vision, and heaps of releases on prominent labels, Duca is now confirmed as a hotly-tipped progressive producer, particularly for his aptitude for writing dancefloor minded tunes. Although recently I’ve regretted the irregular quality of his output, I’m pleased to say he wins the laurels in this release. Duca’s version, while as pared-down as the original, chisels a nice infectious bassline, which spontaneously brings to mind those of Dubfire, Dousk or the excellent Litvak/Ophir tandem. He introduces a two-note theme which, in the final bars, picks up spooky overtones, with plenty of percussive flourishes sprouting in the backdrop. Nice techy-prog DJ tool!

Bottom line
This one comes recommended for the Duca rmx.
