Yeah I think that the psy scene should really start giving John OO Fleming, as well as Christopher Lawrence some credit; and perhaps some thought as headliners at larger festivals. The truth is, these are the guys who are bridging the music out to the masses, and bringing in new fans to the music on a mass scale. Locally, when I mention psytrance to people who frequent clubs and/or raves, they often respond with something about these 2 guys. The good news, is that they are doing a much better job (at least in my opinion), than Infected Mushroom (these days), at bringing the sounds of psytrance to the broader EDM scene.

But yeah, I've seen John OO Fleming play 3 times in the past 4 years. Every time, (including once in a club where he played after some real "euro" style trance headliners Super 8 & Tab - who are NOWHERE close to psy) he has played psytrance for at least 2/3 if not his entire set. He may drop a few non psytrance tracks in early on for flavor, but he generally keeps to psy. The only criticism I could make is that he keeps it kind of slow and proggy at times (I've seen him play 145), when I think that the audience can take it harder.           http://www.soundcloud.com/djKAHN

He is EXACTLY who I would book to headline an event where we were going for high capacity and ots of crossover. Not sure if it's possible to get him in an underground setting though...           Spacecamppsyfari.com

The last time I saw him in LA, I wouldn't call it underground, but it was a club with only about 500 people in it.           http://www.soundcloud.com/djKAHN

I was thinking more like a multi room rave with a main stage that has one headliner from each genre, with Fleming to draw both the trance and psy crowd...           Spacecamppsyfari.com

Multi room is only good (in my opinion) if subsequent areas bring something different energetically to the party. And by that, I mean that there should be ONE MAIN DANCE AREA with the BEST sound system at the party. I started out in the big multi room parties, and over time have come to appreciate the one room, one vibe parties much more. I'd rather see several different genres put together on one stage (as long as they put together a good flow), than see the crowd and energy split amongst several areas.

For me, appropriate secondary areas would include chill out areas, art galleries, movie/film viewing, workshops, swimming, sports, etc.. In other words, something other than a purely dance area.

But yeah, I think that some types of more commercial progressive trance (such as John OO Fleming, Simon Patterson, Christopher Lawrence, Martin Roth, and others) mixed with psytrance could bring a really nice vibe to a party. It would also get the sounds of psy out to many ears who would be likely to take to the sound; but probably have yet to experience it. John OO Fleming is a good headliner for that middle ground.

Way to go Aerodromme!

I always did ti one of two ways...

With UncensoredUs, it was generally three or four rooms, with five to seven genres split between the rooms, where tou had to go from room to room to hear the same genre a night.

For the Rift, it was main stage psy, and two or three other rooms with the rest of EDM represented fairly equally.

If I was to book fleming, it would definitely be the first way, wth one stage far larger than the rest, with one headliner for each genre, and the other rooms providing contrasting support.           Spacecamppsyfari.com

Gateway dj's artists are very important. He played in Dallas not long ago and that is exactly what he did. I didn't go but I was told he went into some psytrance very easily and really drew the crowd into it. Plus a being a great dj technically! This is a great way to introduce people into psytrance. Next thing you know they will be in in the woods with us dancing all night and morning! wellll heheee hopefully!           Jessica

Any idea how big the Dallas party was? I saw him a while back, 04 maybe, at a fairly poorly attended party at the lizard lounge. I think he was just starting to get into psytrance at that time. I thought the set was ok.

Not sure but usually a slower night at the lounge will be about 400 people from what promoters have told me. it might not look like 400 people because people come and go and go upstairs or to the patio and etc...Sometimes however the LL gets super packed... Like its hard to move around. Nick went so I will ask him...           Jessica
