You wanna know about japanese music culture? You have to come here to find out!
well for me I like to get butt drunk, and go crazy at parties. About half the people over here go drunk to parties the other half do other things.
Theres so many types of ravers too.
Theres the cyber culture(they wear weird clothes, a little futuristic cant really explain, have make up on stuff like that).
Then you got the hardcore junkies(they got the dreadlocks, long hair that havent been washed in years, and you know there just wasted).
Then you got the gals and galos(these are japanese terms for girls and guys who are mainstream commercial people, wear anything that is popular, listen to anything that is popular, do anything that is popular and they all have tanned skin, and long brown hair)

All these people come together to form a crowd in which most artists call the best crowd in the world. They do go crazy for sure. But if you ask me if they trully understand the music I must say they dont know anything about good music.

Music wise we have so many organizations in Japan there will be at least one organization that fits your musical needs.
Solstice, Arcadia- If you like Full on madness
VisionQuest-For the Full on and techno trancers
Stargate, Utage-For the Minimal, Proggersive lover
G-Moloch, Trance Proggression-For all the new and upcoming artists
Psychedelic Engine-For you Australian trance lover
Anoyo-For you tribal people
Awaken(my organization)-For those who want to get away from the commercial crowd and music. and escape to the underground scene.

Any other questions?

Awaken is an organization we created for those tired of the mainstream Psy trance. We wanted to create an atmosphere for those who come to apperciate the music, a place where people dont come to just to hear a famous world wide artist. Its a place where they come to hear good music provided by some of the best dj`s in Japan(not me though, but the others are). Its a mainly Proggy and Minimal event(full on is played in the beggining, but from 1 oclock we bring it to an underground atmosphere), we do this party every first wednsday of the month. Many organizers in tokyo come to this event to relax and have fun.
There is only about 100-150 people in the club. but it is a high quality and very good crowd. We do this event at Slinky Tokyo(ex. CUBE) which has the best sound system in Japan.
We dont commercialize this event too much, so only the lucky will be able to come to this party. Thats about all there is about AWAKEN
A. Rosengren if you ever come to tokyo, I will invite you to this party.

Very interesting topic here.
Japan is in the first place on my list of "MUST VISIT" countries.

And I also have some quesations:

What about underground outdoor parties ?
What about police/goverment things ?
What about drugs ?

Hikari sumed up the japanese trance scene perfectly, a lot of diffrent types of people but then general underlying fact is they dont know much about good music. Hikari i didnt know about "awaken". These parties sound really cool, and would love to attend a smaller party of this sort, so i am waiting for my invitation to one of these parties. slinky does have an incredible sound system. peace

Hikari,
I like your style. Similiar to mine at Mindgames. If you ever need a dj, you can book me "The Monk" to play at one of your Awaken Wed parties. I play for free, I beatmix, I've got all the top tunes, and you can probably guess my style by looking at the lineups for the last two Labryrinths. Keep the good vibes going!!

p.s. Is is true that Slinky has got Funktion-Ones installed? And are they are on every floor, or just the main floor? If they are using Funktio-Ones, then they have the best sound system in Japan, because those are the best speakers in the world, something those of you who came to this year's Labyrtinth found out

sorry dude!

to answer your question, sometimes i feel the trance culture here is burned-out, re-hashed, re-cycled, and re-fried. in other words, put a fork in it, it's done.

but moments of the old days are still there lurking under unlikely stones. you just have to know where to look. i think japan still has the potential for the best parties in the world, with the best people and the best production. it just takes a lot more effort than it used to get the right people together. but when it happens, it's incredible!

so r ppl into the full on crazy shit over there? I don't mean the full on style of psytrance - I mean the fucked up mindbending shit, the wacky Finnish shit, the cut up Aussie stuff, anyone into that stuff over there? Ever heard Nam Shub of Enki played at any parties? I know one of his tracks came out on "Gourmet Genre", the CD Ray Castle compiled for Equinox a coupla years back, but does that sorta stuff ever get played at parties? How 'bout the new Psy-Harmonics style.. this "rock/trance"?

Like i said before here in Japan, you have a crowd for every type of music(Full on craziness, Wack Psy-harmonics, Proggy, minimal, tech, anything) and a organization for every type of music. You just have to find out what suits you best.

I bet there is a perfect organization for you Starjelly guys. you just have to find it.

If you want a trance scene like the ones you had a couple years ago with all the good vibes and peace, forget it. Thats not Japan(you have to look really hard for those good parties like Russ said). But if your looking for parties with good artists and good sound systems we got it.

About Sliky Tokyo, They have Funktion One installed for sure. They had brought over a proffesional sound engineer and designer and designed the speakers and everything so that it would be the best sound system in Japan. It is so good that if they turn it up to the max, the buildings next door shake, resulting in the police to stop to the music.

Russ I bet there will be an opportunity for you to come visit our party. If you wanna dj at our party, you can talk with the organizer. We are having a party this coming december 4th weds. Contact me djtk81@hotmail.com. I will put you in as a guest.
