Liquid and Extremely atmospheric ,psychedelic to the core lysergenic and hallucinogenic with classic hypnotizing slinky grooves and percussions apeearing like some wizard weaving his magic stick in the air.And what a production!
Shining ! Unresistable bass!!!!
LIQUID DEEP PHAT PSYCHEDELIA AT ITS BEST!!!

James Monro EP (Flow, May 2004)
A. Battered 8:42
B. Deeper 8:34

King James, king of hypnotic psychedelia of Flying Rhyno (RIP) fame, is back. And he gives an opportunity for all those who still associate psycedelia with lotsa noises and scratches to realize there are other intense realms of psychedlia. That the psychedelic can lye in those little almost unnoticed things and sounds. Both tracks here are totally hypnotic and monotone, while at the same time packed with feel, and changing and evolving all the time- in the little things. Totally hypnotic, totally trance.

Battered on the A side is mysterious and deep, starting dark and full of little twists, surprises and openings. Returning waves of sounds washing on the shores of your brain getting higher and higher till they totally drown you by the end of the track.
Deeper on the B side is deeper, slow and hypnotizing with a touch of tribalistic groove. Always changing, always twisting, always the small little changes in the loops and layers and sounds that make this EP such a psychedelic musical joyride. Excellent.

Bottom line: THIS is trance. Need I say more? Welcome back James Monro, you were missed.

Progressive it is for sure, but the word I would choose to describe it first is psychedelic!           ---------------------------------------------

Any news of a CD release for this one? I liked it - Monro's experience is very evident in this deep sound production...

Bought the vinyl anyway, it was too good to pass up the review:

James Monro - Battered / Deeper [Flow 2004] 12"

Drawing upon years of experience, James Monro has hit the world with two deep and psychedelic progressive monsters. Battered features huge atmospheres and a snakey hypnotic hook that repeats through-out the song. Sweeping pads clean up the soundscape from time to time and then re-introduce the psychedelic bass stabs as the percussion clanks along. Composition is delicate and lets this night-time beast grow to proper proportions, full of depth and tension. Deeper is the more subdued of the two, atmosphere intact and groove increased, with light tribal percussion keeping the song on the move. Sophisticated high-quality progressive-psychedelic trance.

Exactly! Just like old days of "Tara Putra - Trip to Ketu". Hypnotic and monotone induncing you into the psychedelic trance.

Superb!
