You should check out Sound Tribe Sector Nine-- their performances are a lot like a dj mix in that the music doesnt ever stop. Theyre really talented.

Another good group is The New Deal-- they do live progressive house with one guy on drums, one on bass, and one on synths. Wicked stuff

holy crap that is awesome!!! i was already thinking about going to camp bisco but now with hallucinogen, eat static and younger brother on the bill i think i HAVE to go. The New Deal will be there as well
Yes, I think the merging of these two scenes could be really beneficial. I remember reading that the disco biscuits were supposed to play a show with GMS a while back, but I don't think it ever happened.

I've never been into the jam band thing but this is breakthrough stuff here. Really glad to see it happening.

Especially in light of the whole rave act bullshit and crack downs on electronic music events cos the drugs while ignoring the cloud of indo hanging over jam band festivals... To have psytrance getting its foot in the door to these events is great and I'm all for it.
Not to mention there's some really cool people in that community (yes I call it a community, not just a scene) and I know they'd embrace psychedelic trance.

And coincidently, just last week I loaned a deadhead/jamband friend a copy of Younger Brother's A Flock of Bleeps and he loves it and wants to hear more of what I'm into.

I myself was deeply immersed in the jam-band scene before getting turned on to psytrance during a long stay in the UK. Having been on both sides, I'd say the connection makes sense on a number of levels.

Both scenes have a deeply rooted love for musical improvisation and never getting the same show twice. Both view traveling and hearing music in different locations as an integral part of the experience. And, as a general statement for better or worse, both scenes have a particular affinity for the occasional alteration of the mental state.

One thing, Rich...I wouldn't say jam-band festivals get a free pass at all when it comes to the law. A chartered cruise from Jacksonille, Florida featuring dozens of jam-bands and their fans experienced a major crack-down while attendees were boarding. They were specifically targeted (as the police would freely admit) because a lot of them had been posting online their best methods for sneaking contraband onboard. That said, the two scenes would do well to put their best minds and music together.

As for me, I'll be up in Ithaca for certain.

Yep, it's on for sure now. I, being equally interested in the Jam Band community and the psytrance scene for a long time have been working towards getting these two psychedelic communities together for a couple of years now.

We have a local SF band by the name of BLVD that opened our April party with Son Kite and they are very much in the same vein as the New Deal and Sound Tribe. They went over well with the psy-community and we are having them back to do it again with the Silicon Sound party on June 17th.

I'm going to be doing some promotions with the production company that is doing Camp Bisco as well as working with them to bring hopefully bring something like this out to the west coast sometime soon.

This is a big step for psytrance now that it is being introduced to a whole new audience that is very open minded. Now we just have to convince the psytrance scene to be as open minded towards psychedelic jam band music and then we can move this all foward towards bigger and better things!

hmm, this is interesting...
i too listened to the "jam" music as a younger lad, and there are some connections...
at the same time the jamband music is much more accessible, and attracts more spectators than participants, if you know what i mean.
but yes, with an open mind (not common enough i'm afraid) it's an easy transition to make

kind of an aside, but it's easy listening to psy all the time to forget what it sounded like for the first time...
at the Goa Gil party this weekend in SF, one of the most rewarding things is checking out people on the dance floor who were new to the experience... they were the ones pointing at the speakers saying "HOLY SHIT OMFG WHAT IS THIS AWOWIOGIJEKJHEUHEFIH"

i think Hallucinogen could be a respectable first proper psy experience

maybe off topic but,

At the Shpongle party in NYC a few nights ago, Simon was maybe 30 minutes into his set when a gentleman clad in a preppy collared shirt turned to an older gentleman without much hair wearing a longsleeved uv reactive shirt and posed the question, "Who is this guy?", the older gentleman turned to him, smiled and said, "that, is Simon Posford." The whole situation made me smile. Imagine hearing Shpongle live as your first psy experience.

I think bringing in the jam band scene is a bad idea, it is a scene that tends to be mostly suburban white upper class rich kids, and is not very representitative of new york and jersey.
I think the underground hip-hop scene in New York is more like the Psytrance scene than the Jamband scene. I know quite a few hip hop heads, hip-hop djs and rappers who attend trance parties in the New York Area.
Also, we use many of the same outdoor locations for underground parties that the Hip Hop crews use.

Dunno, it always seemed to me that psy and hippies were a natural fit. Down here in Texas, that's half our scene; there's even been talk of booking psy-rock bands for the chill room at a party.

the U.S certainly spans furthur than new york,
i could not imagine tx hip hoppers diggin our events other than of course an openminded few.
on the big scale i believe 'hippies' are totally more prone to trip out on psy sounds.
i think if its done right it would help both scenes.

but i just want to convert them all!!!
hahaha.

Hippie Kidz are cool but with hippie kidz often come drunken rednecks and old burnouts, 2 kinds of people I dont think we really need...
