i think aspects of trance will get absorbed into the mainstream, this is inevitable.. surely popular culture changes by taking little bits from all the extremists that hang out on its fringes. that does not mean psy trance will become mainstream. in fact au contraire i recon it'll remain fairly underground with some hardcore adherents (this means us ). take jazz as an analogy. people have been making jazz for the best part of a century and it has evolved and changed and had its flirtations with the main stream, but now proper jazz is still a minority interest, whilst some of its key ideas eg 12 bar blues etc have become totally mainstream (after all you could argue this was the origin of rock). and so, imo it will be with psy...
(ps jason.. who was making rock in the 30's and 40's man? )

tommy, rock was allways present, it was simply called differently - rocakabilly, blues, blues n roll and the likes.
as for absorption to the mainstream, listen to many melodies, all using Virus sounds, or 303's. take Allyah's try again synth line.. very goa soundish...

right, so aspects are being absorbed as i suggested, but that has not stopped anyone producing the genuine article, and i don't think it will...
re tha rock thang, i was under the impression that rock came from blues and folk essentially via jimmi 'purple haze' hendrix and the grateful dead. it therefore seems you can't 'backdate' and say previous styles were actually rock and just called something different. however i should emphasise that i am no expert so this isn't just imo it is impuo (in my pretty uninformed opinion)
