I believe it is shamefull for this forum to grab a FAQ from a newbie, and turn it into gigantic proportions because either you snoby or out of proportions adept of "be yourself".
I already hate this forum, I only come here sometimes because of technical issues, and these childish ways do not help at all.
Back on topic: I started with reason, fantastic sequencer, because it is all there in one program, fantastic for begginers, and even better for pros, it's sequencer is great!
Then relunctatly moved to fruity because I wanted to use VST's(relunctatly because of it's loop base sequencer, instead of the usual linear one).
Nowadays I don't even consider moving sequencer until(this is the key) use anything external, like an instrument that needs midi and audio I/O.
Why? Because I just make exactly what I want from fruity, comercial level and just the way I want it. I breeze throu it without even thinking, and only loosing 5 minutes to adjust the mix and it's just what I want.
Speaking of released work on "kiddie seq's", my "teacher/sensei/friend" Lost Budha has just been launched with a reason made track that is just awesome( Compilation name, Apsara from Suntrip records is a mix of old-skool and new-school Goa/Psy)
MoDu out, and please relax people, smoke a joint

agree 100%... only i started with fruity and am now checking out reason. im sure fl would be enough, i cant get it to sound nice though probably because i dont know much about the technical aspects of producing. i just go 100% by ear
my best advice is.. get everything, try everything, find the tool you like and stick with it. be prepared for being shit all over because at the start your stuff sounds like shit compared to released stuff. great sound comes with time and experimenting, most of all just have fun and enjoy yourself.....
this drama is fucking unreal too, i play a computer game and this reminds me of the nerd gaming forums sometimes im afriad to even ask a serious question for help (like the thread starter did) cuz itll spark a 4 page drama fest who gives a shit what you use or how you use it, as long as the end product rox |

someone on psy-forum said that:
'Nothing sounds as expensive as a good idea'.
this is the key. remember to think creatively and enjoy making music... if it's good enough it will get the recognition it needs. released artists use fruityloops or have used fruityloops - and anyway, what matters is the people on the dancefloor!!!!! |
