I have something like.... 40 tracks I made on impulse tracker in the last few years, and musically, I'm very happy with them. Actually, the only thing that really annoys me is THE SHIT SOUND QUALITY OF IMPULSE TRACKER.
What's the best way to fix this problem fast? |

the best way is to work on new projects with cubase/logic
but if u want to try to give them better sound try exporting the track to cubase/logic.
you taking out waves , each wave is a pater with another sound. import them to cubase/logic and maybe then you will have better sound , but i can tell you this - you will loose sound couse the I.T exports wave bad.
do your choises, good luck |

Asaf, the sound quality can be also a problem of bad quality samples. in this case you'll have to tweak with the samples: export them all, and try to create identical samples with a good quality.
you can play the tracks in Modplug tracker and see if the problem is IT's drivers, but there's no promisses: 2-3 years ago the IT files that were worked on in WWW were with downsampled quality samples (8 bit) in order to trasfer them by modems, and i hope this is not the case.
besides this there's "pulse player" (u can download it from www.dspaudio.com)

i dont know impulse but i made a few conversions of fruity trax to cubase (not my trax). can u export one part at a time from impulse? bass drum alone or bass line alone? that way u have 20 to 40 wavs full length which u then drop to cubase and cut and trim and multiply and apply fx and eq and compress etc.
avodat nemalim but if the track is good its worth it. u need a good computer with enough memory (ram and HD) and patience.

All of my samples are 16bit 44.1khz or higher quality, and I know the wavewriter is pretty buggy (especially with the surround option on the panning), and the in Modplug you can get better quality.
So far I've written entire lines without any delays and done all of the sound editing and mixing in sonic foundry Acid and Sound Forge.
I'm just hoping that there's a fast way to do that, not the painful and VERY time consuming way I've done it up to now (I'm a wizard of Impulse Tracker, since I used it for quite a few years).
Is there any sampler plugin for VST that can take lines out of .IT files and rework them into midi commands/take samples out of the file itself?
I know about the technical side of Impulse Tracker, and I truely doubt if anyone (well, maybe Domestic/IM which also used the program a while ago) can teach me anything about how to work with it or it's limitations :) |

Try rebuilding the whole track in cubase/logic/fruity/whatever, with the same notes and construction but not the same samples. Now that you are more experience the tracks will sound even better! |

Rome wasn't built in a day, you know ;-)
I have some IT (tfu tfu tfu) tracks too, and I plan to rebuild them (not transfer) to cubase once I get this *censored* MIDI interface to work. |

Asaf, in Modplug tracker you can convert these files to midi, and then the only thing u do is use some sampler in Cubase/Logic in order to play those parts ... if you use the instruments - u can copy the envelops with much more options into Halion sampler.... samples extraction from track is made pretty easy, so u can extract them all into the same dir and create Halion patches which you can play with it in VST host. so u extract the midi, load it in cubase/logic, then load vst sampler, and load the patches. the last thing to do in order to make them sound like with IT is to fsck up the mixer so it'll sound lousy :) and read your pm. I tried using Modplug to convert to MIDI, and it fucked up the entire track! Just writing everything down again seemed easier than fixing everything. Or maybe I was doing it wrong... |

I fully agree with Bilbo; Modplug Tracker's a good way to do that. I use it to make IT files and quality is vastly superior than IT as you can EQ it and to got a good quality resampling. Although of course the best is to convert the track to MIDI file.

And then convert the MIDI to cubase/logic/cakewalk of course, it's not fun making tracks with "Grand Piano" and "Nylon Guitar". ;-)
Philip, shut up. :-) |
