i have a toshiba dual core satellite pro p105 and it is *not* suitable for live use. (gaps in sound).
Ive tried 4 sound cards on it (Motu Ultralite Firewire, Presonus Firebox Firewire, Echo Indigo IO PCMCIA and VirusTI USB1) and they all have pauses in the sound, apparently it's a known issue and toshiba arent likely to fix it at any time.
its annoying though fine to produce on but the real trouble is when playing live...every 10 or so minutes you get a little pause/slur.
im pretty much heart broken as there seems nothing that can be done about it and i bought it specifically because so many people were telling me how good the toshiba dual cores were for production.
i did so much research to make sure i was buying the goods and still got burnt, so be careful.
have a nice day

I have Tecra A6 with core duo 2000mhz and never had a glitch with it for the one year I have it and I played quite a few lives with it and in different weather conditions.
I have to say tho that this Duo thing is not as cool as the desktop versions of dual core.. it has some issues with the CD rom for example, that from some weird reason uses only one core while burning, and u actually can do nothing while that happens, since the computer suddenly uses "as if" its all capacity and reaches 100% of CPU usage which is totally stupid.
But apart of that small issue, didnt experience any problems, not in playing the Ableton nor using the Cubase for writing songs, very fast and pretty solid, holds on as good as my desktop in the studio..

Using same burning software on both? Different software might utilize CPU differently...

Well I used to think it was Nero's software fault, and I updated all drivers bla bla bla, but then I burned simply with the Media player and same shit occured
