Start with the Foundation trilogy (Foundation, Foundation and Empire, Second Foundation), then move on to the robot series (The Positronic Man, The Caves of Steel, The Naked Sun, The Robots of Dawn).
I'd also recommend I, Robot and Nemesis. The Robots of Dawn is the worst of the original seven, but still a worthwhile read.

Not the best of starts, melloed.
I also recommend the original Foundation trilogy to start with.
Then Caves of Steel & The Naked Sun.
Then: The Gods Themselves; The End of Eternity; The Stars like Dust; Pebble in the Sky.
As for short stories books- I'll start with: I, Robt; Buy Jupiter and Other Stories; Nightfall and Other Stories; Nine Tomorrows.
