BTW.
Arranging and breaks. I believe if many people are doing FX including up and downlifters, explosions maybe even some 8-16bars uprising filtered somethings and some percussion rolls, it will be easy to arrange thrilling breaks with amazing diversity!!

maybe for the bassline we can create a kontakt 2 instrument, i m sure most samplers read this format and we can have it as audio track too, so just the one who want to change a few note on the bass can.

Glad to see this is getting rolling!

You guys are up for me mixing and mastering the track - that's very cool Thanks! For this I will need to work closely with the person doing the edit/arrangement to ensure the data is handed over in a format where I can get to work quickly. On second thoughts I don't think it would be fair if I did the kick, bass, mix AND master so I'll leave the k+b for someone else (see below).

I hope you don't mind but I have some suggestions that I think would improve the end result...

Please make sure that you are very careful with what EQ, compression and FX you apply to your sounds. I'm guessing a lot of us normally work so that we write, arrange and mix the track simultaneously; in this project we are separating those three tasks which means that the decisions we make at every stage can affect the sound of the final mix. I'm not going to make any hard-and-fast rules (except for one - see below) but there are a few things we should perhaps keep in mind:
* Be aware of the difference between sound-design and mixing; automated FX are a grey area so use your brain
* Think carefully about what you do
* Try not to second-guess what you think I will need to do to your sound to fit it in the mix - use your brain
* Use your brain
I will share the mix project when it is finished.

High-passing: if you must do this please do not high-pass higher than 100Hz, unless it's absolutely essential for sound-design reasons. My suggested plugin for high-passing is Waves Q4, with all bands set to high-pass at the same frequency. Make sure the output meters of the EQ don't clip or you will reintroduce low frequencies - the sound may be louder coming out of the plugin than going in!

Kick + Bass: As we all know this is probably the most important element of a psy track, and also one of the hardest to get right. In an ideal situation I would receive the kick and bass both as individual audio and as MIDI parts, samples or synth patches, and saved channel settings. This way I can have as much control as possible over the individual sounds, and can do things to them which would be impossible if I only had the audio; eg. it might be necessary to change envelope settings of the bass or trim the decay off the kicks, in order to get them to work with all the other sounds. I would do as much as I could though to retain the intention of the original producer.

Reverb & Delay: Tricky one. I would much prefer to receive dry sounds in general, but there will be exceptions I'm sure. If in doubt, leave it off.

If you have a suggestion for particular mix effects for your sound, by all means include saved channel or plugin settings and a short .txt description with your audio, and I will try to accomodate as much of them as possible depending on stuff and ting.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

My $0.02:
All audio should be at 44.1KHz. External instruments and raw VSTi bounces (ie. no plugins) should be recorded at 24-bit. Bounces with plugins or level automation should be 32-bit float.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

further thoughts about major and minorness...

does it really make sense to confine ourselves to one key?

most trance is minor, or a very similar mode such as the phrygian (as it incorporates so much of the minor scale), but quite often you'll hear major chords, or chords in a different mode, let alone accidentals etc etc etc.

I think it is perhaps bad to limit ourselves in this way, and better just to determine the root note and go from there.

I'll quite often have my bass in the phrygian to all intents and purposes for example, but have leads in the minor.

Thoughts?

As long as we all keep the midi, there should be no problems in adjusting, if something needs tweaking.           .

im really dont understand what you mean!

we just want to start with one key....

its G-major phrygian!

root keys: G, Ab, Bb, C , D, Eb, F

now you can play with all this notes whatever you want!
as colin said: just use your brain!
