It's like mastering with only one pair of ears. Doesn't feel right.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

No guys, I don't master other people's music, but I'm here to improve my production and see the results of a master on a psychedelic Trance track!! Cause this is all about this forum!! Remember??? How can I compare your masters if the sound is so simple, doesn't have the kick&bass or the drive of a Psytrance track!!? Waste of time!! Yeah, let's see who masters better the last salsa track!! Yeah!

Crazy

The people for whom this thread is intended are finding it very useful. Mastering is about more than psytrance - it's about more than even electronic music.

If you'd like to see what I can do for a psytrance track, please check out my mastering demos.

Yep, of course it would be different with the client more "present", and of course communication skills are just as important as experience/ears/room/gear etc. in mastering. I guess you are wanting direct feedback from the client on your masters? He did give some kind of a target, i.e. do whatever you like, just make it sound better, and that he's not too fond of over-limiting/over-compression etc.

Colin, "mastering with only one pair of ears" is funny. But I think I get what you mean.

If you'd like to go ahead and post comments on each others masters already, here in the thread, then please go ahead. I would actually love to hear some initial comments on mine... It just makes more sense as a learning exercise to wait until everyone has posted their master, and then listen to them all together, and post your comments on each track all in one go too. At least that is what I have set aside time for next Monday/Tuesday!

And who is this SunTribal troll? Don't you have better things to do with your time than throwing hissy fits on an otherwise extremely interesting discussion? Don't you think your comments on the source track are hurtful to the artist involved, who is obviously very talented, and watching this thread very closely? What are you, like 15 and spotty or something? Why don't you ignore the thread if you have nothing positive to contribute? I shouldn't rise to the bait, but...           http://hermetechmastering.com : http://www.discogs.com/artist/Gregg+Janman : http://soundcloud.com/babaluma

I dunno, on the REP forum we always said no revisions, and you have a week to ten days to do it. That should be more than enough time to do a great master to your own (and hopefully, the client's) satisfaction. In the real world we have to commit and can't keep second guessing ourselves all the time, or nothing would ever get finished.

But then on the REP forum no one posts their comments until all the entries have been submitted, like I keep harping on about.

I'm happy for us to adapt things here if people would prefer it another way.

Here's a couple of previous REP WUMPs (mastering shootouts) feedback/discussion/processing threads, so you can see the kind of thing that goes on:

I don't know who you're talking to there but in case it's me:

You can send any type of audio file (uncompressed is by far the best although if you only have mp3, well, that's what we'll have to go with). 24-bit or 32-bit float, 44.1kHz minimum sample-rate. When you make the mixdown, adjust the master output fader so that the track peaks somewhere between -6dB and -3dB. If you can't do that, just make sure it doesn't clip - and if you can't make sure it doesn't clip, make sure you export at 32-bit float cos then it won't matter.

I prefer to discuss the fee in private so please contact me by email colin@oood.net to ask about this. What I will say here is that I'm not the cheapest you'll find, although people keep telling me I give good value for money.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
